Have you ever been told you sound like a different race from what you are?
At work I get "you sound black." When did voices and music start belonging to one race or the other.
I listen to all types of music Led Zeppelin< favorite band- 2pac<favorite rapper
Music I can understand why people separate, don't agree but understand it. But voices? We separate through voices now?
Tell me if you have experienced this or know someone that has. I pick best answer

I'm black and I'm told that I don't sound or act like it. Which is kind of racist and insulting. A lot of people think that black people are supposed to sound uneducated and act like thugs. I don't fall into that trap. If acting "white" means I carry myself with class and dignity, so be it. I think the whole acting "black" and acting "white" thing is an old idea that needs to be put to rest.

I'm black (African to be more specific) and I've been told many times that I talk too "white", people have told me that if they spoke to me on the phone without meeting me first they would've guessed that I was a white girl. I don't know why this is, it's certainly not something I put on but why stress it, I mean, I can't change it.
My parents are really the only ones in my family with Kenyan accents, my siblings and I lost ours soon after we moved to Canada and when people meet my parents for the first time they usually don't believe that they're African. Apparently there's this one accent that all Africans are supposed to have lol and my parents don't have it so people usually assume that they're British blacks.

Since most people can't tell what I am, they've never said that I act like any other race. But I have heard people tell white guys that they're acting black because they listen to rap, and I've heard others calling black people "Oreos" because they've mastered the english language. I think that's stupid. ಠ_à²

I've had people tell me that I "act and talk seriously white". I find it kinda irritating and amusing at the same time, because I'm not white, I'm indian.
