Does the code have to be 25 characters?

Iam reloading windows XP from the CD. I have been asked for a 25 character code. My certificate of authenticity has a 14 character code. Has a virus altered the re-boot program so you need a code with more characters.

Now I wish I just paid for think point when it was offered to me.

that would be extortion, but at least I would still have a working computer.

Actually , think point virus would not have left you with a working computer. But, if you had not written your 25 digit alpha numeric serial down, you can try the one on the sticker on your computer, if that does not work, you will have to contact MS concerning your legitimate copy of xp . Good luck !

You would not have a working computer if you paid for Think Point. You would be lighter in your wallet/purse when your credit card information was sold to everyone in Russia. Then you would also be put on a 'sucker list' that lets spammers and scammers know that you will fall for anything.

You need to get the CD code from the CD case or the cardboard CD holder that the CD was attached to. You did buy a legitimate version of Windows, right?

One more thing. If your computer has a recovery partition, you might look on your computer documentation to see how to run the program to reinstall Windows back to factory.

I'm sure it's too late for the questioner, I believe people can get their 25 digit code using Belarc Advisor before they reinstall Windows.

A virus wouldn't do that. Put in your 14 character code and it should work.
