Why does my mother in law always try to compete for my kids attetion?

She is always trying to do things better than me when it comes to my kids. She wants them to like her more, and I don't understand it. Any advise on why she is doing this would be great. The whole situation has got me lost. Thanks

Update:

Thanks taco. I hope that day never comes because there will be trouble. Thanks for the advice.

Let her win! It is no fun when she has no one to compete with. Your kids will like her now but thats good! They will keep a good relationship with your mother-in-law. Don't worry, your the kid's parent. Kids are smarter than you think. They will like her but they will always love you.

She thinks she knows better because she is an older mom.

She loves them very, very much and gets over enthusiastic and forgets that she is Grandma and not Mom. That is her mind frame. Ask other grandmas. Ask your own Mom how she feels about her grand-kids.

It's just a part of human nature. We're just naturally competitive, and we love to be loved. You really should talk to her about it, but calm down. If/when she starts putting bad ideas in your childrens' heads about you, then that'll become a real problem.
