cant connect to internet after vista reinstall, no network adapter in device manager?

so i had a hard drive failure, so got a new one, installed vista, no problem. except i cant connect to the internet

previously, i has set up a wireless network, and had my gateway desktop connected to my netgear router

now, when i go to device manager, i dont see anything listed under network adapter. have 3 listed under "other", all with driver errors:

ethernet controller

pci simple communications error

unknown device

im completely wiped, sick as hell, so if you could break this down, it would be appreciated

Update:

downloaded the software for the netgear, tried to install, but said it said that the network adapter wasnt responding, and i needed to try to use it on a cpu with a working ethernet adapter

Automatic updates won't help if there's no driver installed for the network adapter as it requires an internet connection to get the updates.

You need to find the manufacturer of your network/wireless adapter and download the updates for it on another PC then transfer it across. You could try searching for the drivers on a Vista installation disc but this should have been installed when you installed Vista really.

If your computer is like a Dell or something, go to their support pages, find your PC model and it should list the drivers for your system there.

Check & install any automatic updates as one update may contain the driver for your wireless adaptor/ ethernet controller.

Find out the make of the wireless adaptor or ethernet controller and go to a PC with access to the internet. Find and download the driver ( Look on manufacturer websites) and then save the installer (Located in the downloads folder) onto a USB.

Conenct the USB to your PC and install the drivers from the USB.

You are going to probably need someone to sit at your PC to help you because it could be a few things that would take to long to sit here and try to troubleshoot over this thing here.

The first thing I would check is to see if you have the driver installed.

    How do you do that?

Well, depending on the motherboard IF the NIC was pre-installed it came with a CD.

If you went out and bought the NIC then grab the CD it came with.

If the PC didn't come with a CD then you may need to call the manufacture or if you know the make model etc of the NIC, get on another PC and go to

    http://download.cnet.com/windows/drivers/

and search for it, then burn a copy to a USB drive or burn a CD.

    Good luck!

you need to go to the pc makers web site and download the drivers for your model, you will have to do this on a different pc, then transfer the drivers to your pc and install them, even if you just download the network card (nic) sometimes called ethernet drivers, this will let you plug in the ethernet cable and get online to download the rest of the drivers, you will find the drivers in the support section of the web site

Find out what your wireless adapter is called and download and install the drivers for it.

Try to reinstall the drivers for the wireless card. That should fix the problem. The blue screen shows up when there is a problem with the hardware, drivers or software.
