How can I determine which tires to use for a specific wheel if all I have is the rim width?

I want to buy a new wheel set for a road bike I bought recently. I have tentatively picked out a set of wheels, but I don't know what size tires to buy for it. The tires I am looking at are sized like "700x23c", "700x25c", etc. The information I have on the wheels is that the rim width is 20mm and the rim depth is 24mm. Here is the link for the wheel: http://www.realcyclist.com/wtb-rcx-2.0-front-wheel...

and the link for the tires: http://www.realcyclist.com/fyxation-session-700-du...

I'm not very experienced with road bikes, so any information would be welcome.

Tires for road bikes run from 700 x 23 up to 700 x 32. The second number is the approximate width of the tire when it is inflated. Any of those sizes will fit that wheel you show. The link you show is for a front wheel only, not for a set. Rear wheels are more expensive for the same quality because a rear wheel has to have a cassette body. For the tire you are looking at you have to determine if the tire will fit the frame and brakes. If your frame has tight clearances and you have brake calipers that fit closely around the tire, a 28 mm tire could possibly be a size too big. The wheel is not your potential problem

    23 or 25 is fine

you don;t want to get too much narrower with the tire, than the wheel width, 24

19 or 20mm would not be ok

going over 24mm is not a wheel problem

but it may become a frame clearance or an 'i have to deflate my tires to go through these brakes' issue

    23-28 is probably ok

why are you not getting standard road bike tires?>

those tires seem to have extra rubber and a weird flat-top profile for use on fixies

Fyxation Session 700 Dual Compound Tire

If you’re king of the skidders, you probably go through tires in a hurry. After all, that sweet, black, curvy line you just laid down is nothing more than tiny pieces of rubber you embedded into the street. The Fyxation Session 700 Dual Compound tire is the perfect marriage of drop-dead-gorgeous color and long-wearing hard rubber.

    * Softer, colored rubber on the shoulders and sidewalls makes your steed look the sleekest

    * Hard, black rubber on the centerline provides great durability and flat protection –go ahead, skid on that patch of broken glass

    * Bead-to-bead tread grips like mad during your freestyle sesh

    * Kevlar layer to further protect against punctures

Bottom Line: Make those all-white rims look good.

also at $50 each they are VERY expensive

decent road bike tires can be had for $20 easy

is it worth that much just for green or pink tires

The wheel is fine although a little on the heavy side. Lets just say that it weights as my front wheel complete with tire and inner tube and quick release (not included on your tire I think).

The tire on the other hand at 28 is way to wide, stay with 23-25. It also weights a ton!!!

450 grams that is like 1 pound!!!

the venture is that the perimeters are possibly over-sized by low profile tires. in case you placed favourite tires on them, they'll rub interior the wheel properly. relies upon on your automobile, rims, etc. do exactly a sprint analysis on the internet or pass to a pair of tire shops for some solutions.

    http://www.google.com/custom?q=tire+sizing&cof=LW%...

See that link please. I would think either of the tires would work. 700x23 or 700x 25.
