A question about my cars windscreen wipers.?
Hi.
This morning when I tried to start my car i was startled to find the windscreen wipers wouldn't work. Due to the cold weather they were covered in ice so i chipped and melted it away and tried again, there's literally no response from them. I cant be sure if it's a mechanical fault or it's just the harsh weather. Does anybody have any suggestions?

You could have popped the joints of the transmission of your windSHIELD wipers motor.

Make sure the wipers are clear of the screen, check the fuses as this is the most likely cause. Burning the motor out is not impossible but most unlikely unless the incorrect fuse has been used. The correct fuse rating will be in the hand book and also the fuse box cover. There are usually some spare fuses in the box for this. replace any you use so that next time you can change one needed. most people ignore doing this and expect it o be done at the garage

You need to use windshield washer fluid that is good for below zero temps. Also, when was the last time you changed them? You should do it twice a year.
However, if the wipers won't even move then you should have that looked at. I've driven my car in -40C weather and the windshield wiper blades may have been frozen but they did move back and forth.

be sure they are no longer frozen to the glass, then check the fuse, your owners manual will tell you where the fuse is.
