Why do people spend all that money on windows7, when they can get UBUNTU for free?

While windows may run some programs that linux wont, windows will also get viruses that linux wont.

To make sure that people pay for their windows OS and not use a pirate copy CD, they make you contact microsoft with the certificate of authenticity. If you dont have the right code to enter, microsoft stops any windows OS you have in your computer from working. To enable their employees to do this, they put thousands of built in vulnerabilities in windows. Hackers find a vulnerability and create a virus that exploits it and shuts down your computer. The Linux guys were not worried about not getting paid so no vulnerabilities, and no viruses. Linux is inheritently better.

    its capitalism,

if you have to pay for something then it HAS to be better,

the more money you pay then the better it must be,

then there is the expense of more powerful hardware to run a second grade system

ever heard of pirated linux software ?

why pirate it when its free

i have thousands of pieces of software in my linux and its all just a click away

ever heard of the blue screen of death in linux ?

ubuntu is only a version of linux, for those people who don't really want to lose windows

i prefer a real operating system, a real linux system

    1) It's all about the software you can run. Almost every program is windows compatible, but not nearly as many can be run on Linux

    2) People are familiar with, and know how to use Windows (although I admit most of the interface is the same)

    3) Official support from Microsoft when you're using Windows

    4) The average computer user doesn't understand what most of your arguments mean, probably haven't even heard of Ubuntu, and wouldn't know how to install Ubuntu even if they wanted to

P.S. I do agree with your points though...I even have an Ubuntu partition myself

Most people don't build their own computers so most never realize the cost of the MS license. They just happily chug along with w/e price the retailer/manufacturer gives them for the entire package. Secondly, most people don't want to learn a new OS when they just get by with Windows or the fruit company.

Personally, I love linux and use it on all my pc's....and I make a living by supporting MS products :/

Linux is just not a viable desktop operating system for most people. I use my desktop primarily as a console for Linux machines, and I still run Windows 7 on it.
