The reusable filters are much more expensive to buy initially than the disposable paper ones.

You can carefully blow the dust off a paper filter with compressed air and refit the filter.

However, there is the possible long-term effect on fuel consumption with using a cleaned filter as opposed to a new one.

Personally, I've always shopped around for the cheapest branded new paper filter I can find.

I know things are tight at the moment, but the old saying of "spoiling the ship for a ha'porth of tar" springs to mind.

But, try cleaning and re-using the old one by all means. Just keep an eye on the performance and fuel.

Though not a rocket science answer all air filters essentially have a filter made of some filtrate. Removing tapping it to free accumulated dust, and applying moderate reverse pressure would to certain extent free the clogged pores and extend life a bit more. No liquid in any form to be applied.

sure. nicely there was. i can not keep in mind the producer, yet interior the overdue 70's a shopper further in a vehicle for me to plumb up a distant oil filter out. I plumbed it in and looked on the filter out housing, it became sparkling plastic with a drain. The section that became unique became it used a prevalent roll of loo paper because of the fact the filter out. It became some thing I certainly have under no circumstances considered until now or in view that. sturdy success.

    compressed air, blow dust off.

go to a auto shop, they have air compressor, (use in inflating tires)

change the nozzle or remove it, point the hose end to your air filter and turn on the gate valve of the compressor. that will blow the dust of air cleaner leaving it clean almost new.

if the air filter is wet with oil mist, no use of compressed air.

an old procedure done by your grandpa..

still in practice today by professional mechanics,

replacing is not always the solution,

air filter accumulate dust but is can be blown off with the use compressed air.

Chances are, if a filter is not designed to be re-used, don't re-use it. The factory paper filters are not designed to be re-used.

There are filters available that are designed to be cleaned and re-used. Some only require a vacuum cleaner for cleaning, others are to be washed and oiled before being used again

Blow out the filter with a high powered air hose, but you may want to get a new one, they're relatively inexpensive.
