I might be getting a horse that is 7 hours away for off farm lease and..?

& I was wondering how much do you think it would cost to trailer (with our own trailer) the horse from one place to the other. & should we stop every __ hoursish to let the horse stretch? Or let her just stay in there for the time. & what about feeding & water & stuff? Thanks! :)

When we travel we usually stop every 3-4 hours and let the horses drink if they are thirsty. But most of the time we drive straight through and don't stop. As we usually try to get home before dark. We always fill a haybag full of hay and hang it in there for them to munch on. We don't take our horses out of the trailer as they are fine in the trailer for that long of trip. We travel out of state to big barrel races (16+hrs we break it up into a two day trip...drive maybe 8-9hrs then pull over at a place with pens and stay the night).

If its your trailer and your driving it then the only cost is gas. I would stop every 3 hours and if the horses are easy to get on the trailer take them out and let them walk around and nibble on the grass. Leave a little bit of hay for each horse in a hay bag for them and just refill it when you take them out, and for watering them when you take them out offer some water.

You could probably get away with stopping only once or twice (more would be better, but we have to be reasonable), but when you find a good place make sure to let her walk around and get water. You can give her hay while she's in the trailer, but make sure the haynet is put up properly so she doesn't get tangled in it.

I am not sure how much it would cost? but when i go from maryland to kentucky we usually stop about 4 times and thats about a 9 hour drive so we take them off let them stretch and give them some water every other hour.

you need to take the horse off the trailer and walk her every half hour even if its on a busy road or the highway they will get sick and die if you dont and it will cost a lot of money i now becuz im a horse trainer!!!
