You need tennis shoes so you won't be scraping your feet on the court till you bleed.

The simple answer to your question is yes, it will improve your footwork, and your overall feel on the court. There are many great "tennis specific" shoes out there, and it's a matter of finding what you like and sticking with it. Two of the most popular tennis shoes out right now are the Adidas Barricade 6 and the Nike AirCourt Ballistics, and Nike Vapor Tours. You should try tenniswarehouse.com and check out a majority of the tennis shoes offered in the tennis market. Most of the shoes come with a 6month gguaranteeso if the bottom rubber sole oothershoe is exposed or completely wears out in 6 months you send in your old pair and they will replace your shoes for free! Do your research and look at different features each of the shoes offer. THere are many great tennis shoes and I hope you will find a pair that will help you and your game improve!

You can hit with a lousy racket, your clothing might not be the greatest, but if your shoes are crummy or don't fit, THAT is a serious problem. You don't want to injure your feet! No way.
IMPORTANT: Make sure that you get TENNIS shoes that fit correctly, with some space in between the big toe and the front tip of the shoe.
Get some nice thick socks and use them when you try on your new shoes for the first time at the store.
Walk around the house in them for three or four days before you play tennis in them. Why? Because if you play in them straight out of the box, you feet will slosh around inside them and give you painful blisters. Not good :-(
You need footwork to get yourself into position, and learning the split-step in between shots is an important concept.
HOWEVER, you hit the ball with your racket hand, which is controlled by your eyes and brain behind your eyes.
Racket-handling technique, strategy, and shot selection are usually more important for you at this point [high school]. Try to get out and hit tennis balls six days a week. [Example: ball machine, serve practice, backboard, specific drills and/or practice sets/matches with other players] If you want to also do agility drills, that's good, too.
Have some fun and hit the ball behind or back. Can you catch a ball with your racket? Federer's "tweener" that he hits while running away from the net is also a fun shot to try, just don't practice it very much when your coach is around, lol.
Sportsmanship might not be #1, but it's way ahead of whatever is in 2nd place.
Best of luck with your tennis :-)

You should definitely get a pair of tennis shoes. Tennis shoes will give you much more grip on the court, letting you change directions more effectively. They should really help your footwork (and good footwork is necessary to give your strokes a strong foundation, so they will improve your whole game!).
A great website for tennis shoes and gear is www.tenniswarehouse.com. They usually have the best prices around, and if you spend over $75 you get free shipping and free return shipping (so you can buy several types and sizes of shoes, and then return the ones you don't want for free).
I recommend these shoes: http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/Prince_T9_Roadster...
They are relatively cheap and very comfortable and durable. Nike and Adidas make good tennis shoes, but they are typically fairly expensive (and Nike's are stiff and not very cushioned, while Adidas's are not very durable, except for Barricades). Asics and Diadora make the most comfortable tennis shoes, in my experience, but are a bit pricey and not very durable.

A lot of stress is taken by the feet of yours. The feet are instrumental while serving the ball and also while chasing the ball around the court. Your stability r depends on the stability of your feet. The lower part of the body has to be stable and firmly grounded. It supports the upper part of the body when it goes for the various shots.
So go ahead and choose a good pair,a cheap pair of tennis shoes might save you money but they will ultimately damage your feet and ruin your chances of being a good player. They will wear out easily and ultimately result in a waste of money.

It definitely did for me. A good pair of shoes are a vital part of your game. Not huge really but you move a lot better. That is what I noticed. Also it is important to have a good pair in order to avoid injury. They are made with a higher backing for extra support around the ankle. If I were you, I would invest in some.

Quality pair of shoes will help you with confidence because they will enable you to stop when you want, to start when you want etc.It can be compared with an overgrip on tennis handle;if it slides in your hand you will not be able to execute shot you possess in proper way.

Good shoes are a must. You can use a thick rubberband in place of a dampener. Most people don't like the 'tinging' from the racket sweatbands/wristbands - not a must. towel will do.
