How to shutdown another computer in Ubuntu?
I want to shutdown my roommates computer occasionally just to see him flip out. I'm not concerned at all about the legality of this... it's just a joke between friends.
I've seen videos on YouTube about doing this in CMD, so long as the computer is on your network.
I live in a dorm, and I'm pretty sure we are all on the same server. Our internet provider here is some company called Apogee... (apogeenet.net)
How can I tell if my roommate and I are on the same network?
And, assuming we are on the same network, how can I shutdown his computer through the Gnome Terminal using his IP adress?
(our IP addresses change every time we reconnect to the internet, but thats not a big deal, he always leaves the room with his computer still logged in.. consider his IP address "known")

If you have an account on his laptop, maybe you can do "ssh 192.168.x.y poweroff"
Source(s): done it lots by accident .. logged onto multiple computers, then type "reboot" or "poweroff" in the wrong window - Anonymous4 years ago
no longer quite. solid cooling and a superior skill furnish are both significant factors that could want to amplify the existence of a computing gadget. even if no count number what you do the capacitors on the motherboard will ultimately fail. droop of off will be better efficient for it, even if age climate on or off might want to have and result on the robustness of the factors.

Hi There,
It may be possible to shutdown your roommate's computer but if it were me I would "rethink" that idea.
"What if".....You shutdown his computer and upon restart there was a problem with it ?
Who do you think he would blame ?
If you want to continue to be friends don't mess with his computer.
