What should I do to make IF Function in Excel 2007 Work? It's working it other cell. In others it's not.?

I'm making a data consolidation in which I get two different files (which should have the same data in it coming from two different sources) and I've put it in one sheet. Now, I created an if function to check if the data from one file is the same as another. I'm doing this for thousands of entries. Sample of the formula is: =IF(G3=O3,"Right","Wrong"). In some of the cells, it works. In others, even when the entries are identical, they still don't work.

Any thoughts?

You could have problems with the data type. One source wrote the data as TEXT and the other as NUMBER, you need to use the same data type.

I would use the Trim formula on both worksheets there may be trailing spaces and the end of the data, so that even though it appears in the cell correctly, if you click in the formula bar you will notice the cursor is a few spaces after the end of the data. For example insert a column, type in =trim(a1), then copy that formula down the column. To remove the formula, copy the column, paste special, values.

Do that on both sheets and retest the IF statement.

You could have leading or trailing spaces in your data. Use the TRIM or CLEAN functions and see if that makes a diffference.

select your range and then do a find and replace. or just get rid of the absolute reference $
