A capella is music performed solo or group vocal or singing without instrumental sound, or a piece intended to be performed in this way. Motet is a word that is applied to a number of highly varied choral musical compositions. Lute can refer generally to any plucked string instrument with a neck and a deep round back. The viol is any one of a family of bowed, fretted and stringed musical instruments developed in the mid-late 15th century and used primarily in the Renaissance and Baroque periods. Sackbut refers to a trombone from the Renaissance and Baroque Eras. An oratorio is a large musical composition including an orchestra, a choir, and soloists. A fugue is a contrapuntal composition in two or more voices, built on a subject that is introduced at the beginning in imitation and recurs frequently in the course of the composition.
