How can Snowy countries eg Canada cope with snow, whereas other countries shut everything down{places of work}?
I was thinking about how countries [eg canada] cope with snow? Over the passed few days it has snowed heavily here in Britain. Is it because the people of Britain aren't used to it. Many schools and places of work close down, and the snow cause alot of fuss and hassle.
Thank you for answering my question.

I recently moved to Kentucky four years ago from Michigan.
In Detroit, Michigan we had almost a foot of snow or more each year.
It was natural, everyone in the area was used to it and adapted to the snow
and found ways to deal with it like snow tires, chains around tires, and cleaning it.
But when I got to Bowling Green, Kentucky, we got about two in a half inches of snow
and the whole city shut down and we ran about 3 or 4 car accidents in a matter of two days.
This is because where I am at, they are not used to the snow like Michigan was and haven't found
ways of adapting to it yet. When you live in an area of warmth and little snow fall, they don't learn to deal with it the way people do that live in areas of high snow fall and little warmth.
It's all about where you live and adaptation to the enviorment.

This comes down to how prepared the government facilities are for snow, usually directly related to how frequent the weather turns snowy.
For example, in New York State alone the differences in snow maintenance are dramatic. In the Central/Northern parts of the state, such as Syracuse/Rochester/Albany/Buffalo the counties own tons of snowplows and road salt is actually a huge part of the county budget. They have the experience and man power to get the roads cleared. However, downstate in places like Long Island they simply do not have enough plows or salt trucks to clear the roads as quickly.
Another factor is the people living there. If you live in somewhere like Canada you are used to snow and you know how to deal with it. You can drive and continue your life despite snow better than someone who lives somewhere warm or tropical. If you're from someplace that doesn't get a lot of snow you're not going to be as prepared to try to go about your daily life (like going to work or the grocery store) as someone who has studded snow tires on every vehicle they own.

There are more basic reasons too. Cars for example, snow chains have obvious benefits, but the cost to usefulness ratio is out of proportion. The cross-over temperature to cold weather tyres (natural rubber to silicone rubber I think) is about 7 deg C. more northern countries are below this probably from October to march, thus fit cold weather tyres as part of their 'winterisation' process. If we tried this in UK then we would have more high speed motorway crashes due to tyre failure that could ever be hoped to re-coup from the benefits on cold days (this clashes with big tyre sellers who seem to think UK should use winter tyres). Now as for the railways and airports, I think they have very little excuse! We used to have trains running all through the night clearing snow and sanding the rails, this 'ice on the third rail' just does not hold water.

It's all about predictabilty. Canada can guarantee snow every winter for months, so they gear up for it. It is written into the budgets of local and national government and even individuals. How many UK residents buy winter tyres let alone snow tyres. The amount of time we have snow it is hardly worth it unless this is going to become a pattern.

It's because snow of mega proportions is usually quite rare for Britain. Also, due to the geographical location of the UK it's harder for experts to accurately predict the weather forecast in advance.
The weather is notoriously unpredictable; one year the winter might be mild, the next it we might be freezing our arrrses off, and wading kneee deep in snow to raid the supermarkets of bread and milk!
Personally I think the fuss is to try and get a snow day or two, considering the very crapppy amount of bank holidays we get compared to the rest of europe it makes sense!!

"From my viewpoint, i think of having street indicators in an unofficial language should not be commonly used." precisely what do you recommend via 'street indicators;? street indicators do no longer exist in something yet English or French, through fact the case could be. All genuine indicators be the Federal, Provincial or Municipal are required via regulation to habit agency in those 2 languages. As for street signage, I not often care what language human beings talk, or what faith they prepare or what their usa of foundation is or what intercourse they're, what their sexual selection is, what they're donning, what language they choose to positioned up a white sale or storage sale advert in etc etc. that's a unfastened usa. i'm unfastened to no longer look at what i do no longer choose to work out - self moderation as adverse to government legislated "right this is what needful Sinner is authorized to assert and print and do" "Bonus question - Do you experience Canada could be greater welcoming to immigrants which posses an stronger ability to communicate fluent English particularly then purely sufficient to get via?" No. an stronger ability in itself is purely superb; we live in a international community - actually we are in a position to stroll the walk... Isolationism on no account works. you're from the USA of a, you better than every physique could understand this :)

I'm pretty sure that Canada is used to snow. Idk why Britain completely shuts down. Here in the Netherlands everything still keeps going even when it snows.
