BF Falcon better than BA?
I've heard the BA Ford Falcon was a lemon for many owners. I'm just wondering whether Ford ironed out the problems by the time they released the BF. Perhaps they created new problems? In any case, I'm thinking about buying a BF Falcon wagon for my next car, as I prefer a decent sized, six cylinder station wagon. I'm used to never having problems with my car (currently driving a '99 V6 Camry wagon that's done 300,000 km and never given ANY trouble) so I'm curious to know what other people's experience is of the BF Falcon. How much do you spend on servicing/repairs each year? Ever had it break down on you?

the BA's have their share of problems like most cars, you do have to remember you only hear about the bad and never the good. The BA's where a very different car from the AU so you do expect some issues. BAII had a lot of these ironed out, the further you go into the series the more problems will be ironed out.
The falcons are pretty tough, think of how many taxis you see getting around! if you look after your car you will have less issues. if you drag off at every set of lights, always driving on the edge and smoke the tyres up you will stuff a car rather quick. if you drive them gentle you will have real good fuel economy, if you drive them hard they will use heaps of fuel. our BAII Futura sits on about 8.6lt per 100km. the B series have great headlights but they can be pretty hard on globes. (that is what we have found.)
you won't know yourself going from a camry to a falcon! the falcons have quite a lot of get up and go, makes overtaking much safer.

ford only change there engine design every 10 years and the ba is still pretty reliable. as the ba/bf is only has styling changes that separate those models. expect up to 1,000,000 Kay's with regular oil changes and servicing. if you do a lot of driving i recommend buying the lpg dedicated falcon in the ba/bf range. and no ford has ever broken down on me as i religiously service my fords. the falcon and commodore were made for the long distance driving more than the camry.
