How can I get the check engine light to go off on a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire?

I can usually pull the codes and fix things myself but this problem takes the cake. When I hook it up to an OBD reader, there is no code. Now here's the real kicker: When the check engine light is on, my interior lights stop working. Once in a while, my interior lights will come on and the check engine light goes off. Not sure if I need a mechanic or a priest. Please help!

sounds like a problem with the body control module. located under dash near brake pedal. you will need to have a scanner , not just an obd reader to diagnose the problem.

in case you had the motor vehicle electronically clinically determined to verify why the verify engine gentle became into on, and that venture became into fastened, then it takes some hundred miles of using till now the sunshine is going off. If the verify engine gentle did no longer come on till AFTER the maintenance, there is like a seperate venture, and the motor vehicle must be introduced in for a diagnostic attempt, this is what Autozone gives you for unfastened. Then the situation must be remedied after which you would be able to desire to stress for ac ouple hundred miles to reset the sunshine.

Could be that you have a short somewhere. And that will be hard to find. You might need to take it to the shop.
