Oh no! It's Bern!
When I was teaching in England I announced that I was leaving to go to to live in Berne (that was how it was spelt in 1970). This started a discussion between two teachers in the staff room. One was an English teacher and the other was the head of the geography department. It was like being a spectator at a tennis match. One said Zürich and the other said Geneva, repeatedly. I just listened and, when the bell went for the start of afternoon lessons, I stood up and said, 'Bern(e).'
Zürich is the financial capital and Geneva houses the United Nations. Bern was chosen as the capital because it's almost mid way between the two cities.
This also happened in Australia, when Canberra was chosen as the capital to settle a dispute between Sydney and Melbourne. Other examples are: New Delhi (India), Ankara (Turkey), Abuja (Nigeria) and Brasilia (Brazil).
Sandi: There is a difference between Sweden and Switzerland! By air Stockholm is 1,032 miles or 1,661 km north of Geneva.
Lausanne is the seat of the Federal Supreme Court, but I don't think anyone in Switzerland would call it the Justice capital. The Federal Criminal Court has been in Bellinzona since 2004.
