New Harry Potter movies suck for casual moviegoers?

Ok, I Ioved the first 4 Harry Potter films, especially the first one. But the last few have really sucked. I don't know if they just aren't translating well from the books or if what we're seeing onscreen is how J.K. Rowling intended for things to proceed.

I'm NOT a hardcore fan who's read all the books- I only read the first two and beyond that I've simply followed the movies. But it's getting harder and harder to follow what's going on... I mean I still don't understand what the significance was of trying to destroy all the Horcrux things, aside from them adversely affecting someone who wears it for too long. Why not use a box? LOL

But what bugs me most is that for all of his supposed importance, Harry just isn't that great of a wizard. I mean he, Ron and Hermoine are barely able to defeat the garden variety thugs/minions who come after them. And every time, they come up woefully short against the Death Eaters! Winning at Quidditch as a first-year student- brilliant. But if you aren't any match for the minions you're definitely not worthy of the attention of Voldemort himself!

This isn't Harry's second year, shouldn't he be far more capable by now? I just don't get why his abilities (and those of his friends/allies other than the late Dumbledore) are sooooo pedestrian.

Is this a problem unique to the movies, or do the books explain this? I'm expecting the films to be complete enough so that people can enjoy them and follow the essentials of the story without having to read all of the books!

Enlightenment, please!

harry is not a hero because of his "skill,' it is because of his bravery. You will often find that famous heroic characters are not the best and brightest, they are just willing to do what is neccesary. JK rowling is a childrens author. no one is going to relate to a super genius that kicks butt by studying. she doesnt ignore the fact that brains are necesary- thats what hermione is for- but she instead puts stock in good always wins against evil. Harry is a character that struggles of course, but by struggling and still prevailing, he is a better character to watch GROW than a very "capable" person.

the story is a bildingsroman- a coming of age story- not a super hero story.

i do understand where you are coming from though, for harry does seem awfully dense sometimes. however, you have to remember that he great at defense against dark arts with lupin and moody (which are the only defense against the dark arts that matters), he teaches quality spells to his friends in dumbledores army, and he is good when he fights.

remember that his best spell is against the patronus charm, which protects and wards off dementors. no one else can do it as well as he can. this is all very representative of the fact that courage protects the weak.

by showing the weaknesses, rowling gives us a more relatable, realistic character. she also is playing with bigger themes of love vs hate and good vs evil. both good and evil can have brains- dumbledore had some brains, remember- but it isnt dumbledore that is kicking butt, it is harry, who is protected by love and is pretty "good"

The last few movies are more true to the books than the other ones. They assume that the people who have watched thus far know the story well enough to know what is going on without having to explainminor details (although to someone who hasn't read the books, may be unclear). I think it's brilliant that they are making them more true to the book. It makes it more meaningful to those of us who have stuck by Harry until the end.

True, Harry isn't that great of a wizard... but the whole point of the series is that "love conquers all" and that is ultimately what defeats Voldemort. If you read the books, you'd see that Harry, Ron and Hermione reference being "lucky" a lot, and that they just always seem to have the right circumstances to escape.

As for the Horcruxes, they are parts of Voldemorts soul. If he still has them in existence, he can still live. Therefore they need to be destroyed before Voldemort is killed or he will just come back again. And they don't keep it in a bow because it is valuble and need to keep it on them so as not to lose it.

I hope that helps. Really, without reading the books you miss out on a lot of significant details that make the series fantastic. I would suggest it for sure! lol. The seventh book is the most amazing.

I am a hardcore fan and have read all the books. but the sixth and fifth movies didnt always stick to the storyline, thats true but the seventh one was definitely amazing. If you paid attention in the sixth movie, you shoild know what a horcrux is. The horcruxes have HUGE importance in the defeat of voldemort and the sixth book explains all of this, also the seventh. As for Harry, Ron, and Hermione, they are great wizards because they have been doing this basically on their own while Voldemort has all of his followers and all of his own power. as for them not getting away from the snatchers, Harry didnt have his wand and that was a MAJOR setback to him. them getting caught is also essential to saving Luna, Ollivander, and Griphook, the Goblin. they need both Griphook and Ollivander to find more of the horcruxes so they are also very important. Not to mention Harry has defeated Voldemort, what? 5 or 6 times now, so he is worthy.

Wow, i wager i got here upon someone at the different end of the spectrum (the fourth movie change into my least popular). the actually genuine difficulty I had with #5 change into that he overused the darkish lights. notwithstanding the fifth e book change into the longest, it also had the most disjointed and slowest plot, so i somewhat puzzled the way it would want to translate to movie. i somewhat loved David Yates' take and that i imagine he did a sturdy job, given the e book (which, i imagine, JK Rowling herself suggested she might want to have favor to edited seriously). on the different hand, HBP lends itself okay to reveal version and could progression a lot speedier than OOTP did. also, the narrative should not be everywhere close to as uneven and unfocused. HBP is totally the finest written of the Harry Potter books (notwithstanding not my popular) and it would want to be a really sturdy movie, actual more suitable effective than #5, because it change into adapted from a more suitable effective e book. via the via, i do not recognize the position Yates intends to shrink the finest e book, yet I completely anticipate the first DH movie to be like OOTP merely because it has that slower %. with them spending distinct time doing actually not something interior the woods. the 2d movie must be at a speedier %., with any success not too quick or he will muck up the tale.
