Can the air force force you to take EOD?

I'm going in to the air force, I received the second highest General Science Aptitude Area. From what the recruiter told me, they can only place me in jobs that require atleast a 58 in that aptitude area. I like all the jobs in that area except the EOD job. He told me not to worry about that, because the air force wouldn't place me in a job like that; because they offer enlistment bonus for that job and people want that job. The only main reason I don't want that job is because I was hoping for a computer type job. I have college credits towards a Computer Information Systems degree, and all my jobs I have had in my civilian life are computer technician and support jobs.

This has a lot to do with my decision for my contract, I have signed a 4 year, but he offered me a 6 year (with early e3 - since im going in as an e2 for my college credits.)

I just dont want to get stuck with that job for that many years. Any other job I would be fine with signing a 6 year contract.

I don't need to be bashed or anything, Just a helpful answer would be great.

My ship date is Feb. 15.

Which also leads me to another question.

I'm getting married in about 1 week and a half :) How is marriage life in the airforce, and what are the odds of getting a non-accompanied base when i get out of tech school. This also kinda plays a role in how long my contract will be. I am fully committed to going anywhere they put and and doing any job for 4 years, but I would like to go for 6 and make a career out of it, if I get a job that I would enjoy doing.

Thanks for your answers in advance.

-Sam

Update:

I just don't see myself doing well with explosives, and that's about it. Like I said, I'm going in no matter what, but this contract is what is making me think all these questions.

Update 2:

by contract i mean 4 or 6 years.

Your career field will dictate much of your duty time. Many jobs work Monday through Friday, 0730-1630 or there abouts. With any job in the AF, you are on call 24/7 but we do our best to make sure you have family time for your wife and two small children. The AF just had the Year of the AF Family as a focus on taking care the families. Each base is different but if you are able to join the AF, you will become part of a larger AF family and get to meet alot of new people on the way. Keep the following program in mind if you get to join, Heartlink. It is a great program for spouses of AF personnel and should be available at your base Airmen and Family Readiness Center.

EOD or Security Forces ... well, you want to be a bomb tech or a security guard? You really need to want to be in EOD before you decide to go that route, it's not a job you pick to fill your time and ride your enlistment. The school is long, hard and has a fairly high attrition rate. It requires a lot of discipline and dedication to stay on top of all of the skills required of an EOD tech. It's a GREAT job if it's what you want to do. If you don't have an interest in explosives, chemistry, mechanics (ie, how things work) etc, you probably won't like it. I'm an Army EOD tech, we all go through the same training and we work together (all four services) quite often. While there are minor differences between the branches, the job is still the same. Make sure you really want to be an EOD tech if you pick this job.

Congratulations on your marriage! Why don't you like the EOD? (Explosive Ordinance Disposal, right?) THANK YOU FOR SERVING THIS COUNTRY NO MATTER WHAT SOME NEWS PEOPLE THINK!

No. EOD, in any branch, is strictly VOLUNTARY. It is a voluntary duty.
