Davis cup....world cup of tennis?
Me and my friend were having an argument, I was saying just because Serbia won the Davis cup it doesn't mean they are the best country in the world in tennis. He says it does.
The Davis Cup is not at all like the world cup of tennis, it's not even an atp tournament, it's itf. I mean the grand masters seems more like the world cup tournament that the Davis Cup, since the best players only attend.
What are your opinions?
Thanks.

I really struggle with the Davis Cup. It's an extremely old and rather outdated tournament, even the ATP doesn't seem to care much for it. In my opinion, tennis isn't a team sport and shouldn't be. The closest tennis should get to being a "team" sport is in doubles matches.
So in answer to your question, no, I wouldn't say that Serbia are taking the tennis world by storm, no matter how over-dramatic their celebrations were after the final.
Tennis players will always be judged on their individual achievements, beginning with Grand Slams.

There are other ways I suppose that you could measure the #1 country in the world for tennis. One method would be to examine the top 100 players in the ATP and WTA rankings and see which country has the most players. I think Spain might be #1, here, but it's been a while since I've checked.
Another way might be to examine which country has the largest number of people who actually play tennis. Difficult to get precise numbers here, though.
Serbia just won the Davis Cup for 2010.
Interestingly, Spain has the #1 ranking in Davis Cup's World Group:

There are 125 countries involved in Davis Cup tennis. It is a TEAM event, unlike ATP tournaments or the Grand Slam tournaments. How many countries participate in the [football, or soccer, as we Yanks call it] World Cup ?
Some people have suggested that there be more grand slam tournaments, not just the traditional four, located in Australia, France, Great Britain, and the USA. In this line of thinking, you could look at the ATP and WTA schedules and find out which country plays host to the most professional tennis tournaments.

The Davis Cup is the biggest prize you can win as a country in tennis and is the closest the game has to a world cup.

It looks to me you are jealous.Even though I do not like the Davis Cup,it certainly is the World Cup of tennis,Novak Djokovic even said so himself....Serbia had the best team in 2010 and they won,so DEAL WITH IT!!!
I agree that Serbia isn't the best country in tennis, but the players in the team always give 110% and they have heart...Best or no best, they still won, because they had the best TEAM in 2010...
If you think about it,you see that the top teams like Spain,USA,Russia,Argentina,France don't have that many top players, mainly because top players do not want to waste their time on DAvis Cup.So the USA has Isner,Querry,Fish,Bob & Mike Bryan, etc.Spain has Verasco(from time to time),Ferrer,Robredo,Montanes,Almagro...Russia has Davydenko,Jouzhny, and Argentina has Nalbandian(sometimes),Monaco...France have Monfils,Llodra,Simon....So when you look at it these are all top 20/30 players..In that case,Novak Djokovic who is number 3 is easily capable of beating those players, especially when he is on the top of his game(which in Davis Cup is his every match...lol)...So to win a Davis Cup match you need 3 points and Novak Djokovic always wins 2 points,so if Tipsarevic or Troicki are at their best they can beat top 20/30 players and Zimonic who is number 2 in doubles can also pull out a win in doubles,so all of that pretty much secures them a win...If Nadal played for the Davis Cup I'm sure Spain would win it,because Nadal would also win 2 points and Verdasco,Almagro could pull out a win...At this moment Spain and Serbia are the 2 best nations in Davis Cup,and if they meet in next years final I think Serbia would win, because the match would be played in Belgrade on hard courts and the Serbs are very motivated in DC...
And I also think they will be able to defend their title next year, because they have a cakewalk draw...

Davis Cup is not a real measure of any country's best tennis players.Davis Cup is an obsolete competition that should have been Integrated into the Olympics.
