New atheists: 'The God Delusion' - did it work for you?
In his preface, Dawkins gives the reason for writing The God Delusion, saying "If this book works as I intend, religious readers who open it will be atheists when they put it down".
If you read it as an atheist then this question is not for you - the book was well received by atheists at the time, as one might expect.
But if you were 'religious' when you started reading and atheist when you finished I would be very pleased to hear from you. Or even if the book became a significant part of a longer journey from 'religion' to atheism.
Hmmm. It would be really good to hear from an atheist, or two. Please.

I'd been struggling with my faith around the same time I read the book and it helped me to come to the conclusion that there simply is not enough evidence for me to go on believing. I'm not saying there isn't a god or gods, it's the probability.
I can be and am good without a god. So until he (she, they) come down and tell me I'm living my life 'wrong', I'll go on volunteering my time, energy, love and strength to those around me, regardless of faith.
Happy Holidays and enjoy your time with your loved ones to the fullest!

If you truly believe you've experienced miracles, his book probably won't cause you much doubt. If you were already close to the fence, there's a good chance you'll realize you were already an atheist.
To the person who linked the Dawkins vs. Lennox debate and anyone else. Lennox completely missed the point of Dawkin's arguments. I watched that entire debate hoping Lennox would give me something interesting to think about. Instead, he made dozens of appeals to "authority", resorted to the fallacious death count argument, and numerous other dead and boring points. The debate format really killed any hope for interesting discussion. Lennox also is a very, very moderate Christian, so the line between them is fairly blurry. And finally, Einstein was an atheist. Dawkins explains well in his book why physicists like Einstein use the word God to describe things. The universe really is that awe inspiring, in a way the bible could never aspire to be.

maximum Christians in the event that they are genuine Christians comprehend the Bible tremendously plenty. in the event that they'd't examine nicely, they'd pay attention the pastor expounding on the observe, connect a stable bible learn or pay attention tapes from stable pastors, and evangelists. The God fantasy is probable like the Atheist Bible. i comprehend they have an Atheists education manual too, in spite of the undeniable fact that it extremely is packed with falsities.

I had a book swap with a pastor and we blogged about it. I had to read "The Heart of God" and she had to read "The God Delusion."
Not sure if it worked. She dropped out about 5 chapters in.
But I'm an atheist....

I was already an atheist, but hearing an old man who needs to feel a vagina cry about being forced to go to church as a kid bored me. So no.

"Einstein (& Eugene Wigner ) pointed out the need for ‘faith’ in the rational intelligibility of the universe before you can do any science at all… SCIENCE DOESN’T GIVE YOU THAT"
“The very fact that human beings all around the world show a common core of morality is evidence for the Biblical truth that we are moral beings made in the image of God. Of course, we can be good without God, in the sense of our personal behavior, but I’m not sure whether we find foundations for the concept of being good without God."

you have to be smart to understand what he is saying and if you don't go in open minded it wont work because you don't actually listen to what is going on. so if a smart believer read it it would work but we all know there are not many of those

Dawkins is Delusional! The book is for the weak minded.

I cannot possibly tell you how much i despise Dawkins and have no intention of reading his books.
Matt Dillahunty should be where Dawkins is right now.
