finding slope on a line graph..?

Okay, so i have a project due Monday, and idk how to do this one part of it. i have to make a line grap of mcdonalds corp. stocks. well i chose the numbers.. day 3 of the project was + 0.04 and day 4 of the project was + 0.06. I have to show all the steps of finding the slope in the numbers. how do i do this? and also i need to know what slope means..

    enable's take your situation and wreck it down. Your 2 factors are (3, 2) and (a million, -2.) you're completely good regarding the slope - it extremely is "exchange in y divided by way of exchange in x." the two y-coordinates are -2 and a pair of, as you notice above. -2 - 2 = -4. the two x-coordinates are a million and 3. a million - 3 = - 2. consequently the slope is -4/-2, that's 2. So m = 2. If all you prefer is the slope of the line, supply up right here. yet once you prefer the full equation of the line, enable's bypass on: all of us comprehend that y = mx + b. enable's %. a factor that all of us comprehend that's on the line - (3, 2) ((a million, -2) would supply you a similar answer.) So we can plug 3 everywhere we see x, and a pair of everywhere we see y, and a pair of everywhere we see m. And we can resolve for b. So y = mx + b will become 2 = (2)(3) + b. 2 = 6 + b. b = -4. Now all of us comprehend the equation of the line containing the two unique given factor: it extremely is y = 2x - 4. desire this enables. And stable for you for going returned to college! -John

    slope actually tells us what the direction of the graph is gonna be ...ie going downwards or upwards...so if u r taking the sales of whatever , it shows whether u r having a loss or profit...

    slope= tan( angle subtented by the line on the x axis...)

    ie take tan of the angle made by the line with the x axis

    in other words take any point on the line that you have and draw perpendicular lines from this point to the x and y axes...measure the lengths of these perpendicular lines

    let the line parallel to x axis be a and the one parallel to y be b

    then the

    SLOPE=( b / a )

    you will also note that slope always remains same for a straight line (irrespective of what point you take)

    From your information, your points are (3, 0.04) and (4, 0.06).

    "Slope" is the same as "gradient".

    Basically it means how steep the line is.

    To work it out, the formula is (y2-y1)/(x2-x1).

    Coordinates are given in the form (x, y).

    Look at the coordinates above, you can see:

    y2=0.06

    y1=0.04

    x2=4

    x1=3

    (y2-y1)/(x2-x1)

    =(0.06-0.04)/(4-3)

    =0.02/1

    =0.02

    So your gradient=0.02.

    If you need to write the equation of the line in the form y=mx+c, m=gradient (0.02).

    you use the slope fomula.... choose 2 points, call one lot (x1, y1) and the other (x2, y2)

    then calculate: Y2-Y1 over X2-X1.

    best of luck in the project!
