I'll give you the unbiased breakdown but remember, I BLEED PURPLE AND GOLD!!!
The Mavs present a difficult match up for every team in the NBA, especially when they're shooters are on. Dirk, Terry, Butler, Marion, and Kidd running the point, this team was built for glory and they have a dedicated owner to thank. They've got an awesome bench and a productive starting 5. Any team with Dirk has a chance to win. Caron Butler is really one of the most overlooked and under rated players in the league. Shawn Marion is as athletic as they come. Jason Terry can flat out ball. They have an excellent chance at beating the Lakers this year.
The reason they won't, however, is because the Mavs rely on too many jump shots while lacking an inside presence. Any time you have a team where one of your bigs is a jump shooter, you immediately take that big man out of the key where he's supposed to be battling for position to get a rebound. And the Mavs are a good rebounding team to begin with. Also, its very seldom to have a team shoot at a high percentage for long periods of time. And the thing with shooting is, when you're on you're on, but when you're cold, its contagious. Live and die by the 3 point line, and instead of gambling, I'd like the to take it to the hole and bang against the aging and injured Lakers.
Like it or not, The Spurs have the best chance to win the championship this year. they should have been in contention last year. It took them a couple of seasons to figure it out, and with their new additions in Blair and Hill really blossoming into legit playmakers, this is the year. The bad news is this may be the ONLY year for them because of Tim Duncan's declining health/productivity. Duncan is where David Robinson was when Tim first came into the league, a shadow of himself that can still produce in spurts. He may be the best power forward of all time, but in this stage of his career, he certainly is not playing like it. Furthermore, Tony Parker and Manu are still playing at high levels, and Richard Jefferson has finally found comfort on the floor with this team. They shoot well, rebound, and defend every night and Pop has these guys executing at all times. If the Lakers continue to play sub par, they will be defeated by the Spurs.
So, to answer your question, I like the Spurs chances at beating the lakers more than i like the mavs, but both have a good chance!
And for you and the rest of hater nation, GO LAKERS!

I think that both teams can unseat the Lakers.
The Spurs vs. Mavs in the playoffs should be an awesome match.
Go Spurs Go!
