Primary school , no Christmas carols or merry Christmas in class, it may offend a Jehovah's Witness student?

I was listening to talk back radio 2 days ago , a father called in upset because the class his daughter was in banned Christmas in class , changed it to happy holidays , no Christmas carols it may offend the Jehovah's Witness child. Then others phoned in saying the same about Muslims.

As someone who is studying to be a JW I don't believe in Christmas .

When my kids went to school JW kids went to the library or had their own religious instruction during scripture class.

My question is do you really think JW's (or even Muslims) want you to change because it may offend us ?

Why do you allow the PC brigade to dictate to you ?

Update:

Derek

You missed the point , read the question again , slowly , it may sink in.

I am not talking about pushing my faith or any other in this question.

It is nice to see someone with a clear head.

But then again the PC Crowd is just out to destroy the majority and usually are members of the majority, oddly enough. Yes, there are certain extremists who take things to far for their cause.

We need to be accepting of all people, that goes for minority groups as well. Of course, we should not impede others beliefs. Nor should we allow others to destroy our beliefs.

The "holiday season" is just a nice way to say christmas season...you aren't going to upset a JW youth any more or less with merry christmas versus happy holiday...happy holidays is more of a PC stunt to appease jews, christians, whoever actually celebrates kwanza... since Witnesses do not participate in ANY holidays, they don't care how you recognize/entitle the season...if someone chooses to say that they do it not to offend the witness children, they obviously don't understand that witnesses don't take any part in the "holiday season"

If you really wanted to not offend a witness child, don't waste your time on any holiday party and use your already limited funds and time on the actual purpose for being in school, EDUCATION!!! How many hours and full days are wasted on holiday breaks, and holiday celebrations, and holiday fieldtrips...all that time and money could go into EDUCATION, school isn't there to hold parties every other week...

I don't know. When I went to school, it was as you said. The JW's and anyone who didn't celebrate Christmas would go to the library or gym while the class did it's Christmas thing. The JW's I knew didn't mind. They didn't want any part of Christmas. So it's not like they were feeling offended by it. But SOME people out there get offended at any little thing and they want to enforce that on others. Personally, I'm sick of it.

i went to a religious school so those who were not of our same faith were SOL. the school was also a Polish school so kinds who were not Polish learned a lot about our heritage AND their prayers in Polish. i can understand to some degree not allowing a nativity without a menorah in a public school however.... unless the JW's and Muslims want to negate Christmas out of their own lives completely - they should just buck up. I mean, i'm sure they don't give back their extra pay for working on CHristmas or their Christmas bonus or not let their children take their Christmas vacation and heaven forbid they not shop any of the Christmas sales! i find it pathetic that they want to disallow their children an education. while i'm not jewish or muslim, i enjoy learning about their customs and traditions and "celebrate" with them. i send hanukkah cards and christmas cards.

these parents and the schools are doing these children a great disservice. these children will think that in the real world everything will stop for them too. the parents are very VERY insecure in their children's faith too.... do they really think the world will stop celebrating birthday's and CHristmas because they don't?!

If I am reading what you wrote correctly, it was NOT the Witness that changed the school's policy - but obviously this came from the Board of Education, or at least the teacher/school principal with the OK of the Board of Education.

We as Jehovah's Witnesses do not participate in the policy setting of government institutions and that includes schools.

When I was in school, particularly elementary school in the 1950's, I welcomed the opportunity to go to the office or the library. I never got enough time in the library and so I enjoyed that. And so did the other Witnesses in my school. We were from all different grades, but spent that hour profitably.

If our classmates chose to celebrate the holidays, that was and is their choice. We are not in school or any class or job to give others grief over their personal choices.

But if the school boards or companies choose to modify their policies, that is up to them.

As a Jehovah's Witness's child in school my parents would never attempt to ban holiday celebrations of any sort, we just didn't participate. Witnesses are not trying to change this world's religious traditions, Christian, Muslim or anyone else. The decision made at the school of the child you mentioned was made because the school board didn't want to offend anyone, not because JWs protested.

What Witnesses do is talk to people about the Bible and not in a political forum. Some people actually are interested to hear what the Bible really says. That is what Jesus commanded his followers at Matthew 28:19, 20 and said would happen throughout the earth before then end of Satan's system we no live under. (Matthew 24:14)

Give it a few decades and the religious shift will make you regret trying to say majorities should overrule the rest. Christianity could very well become a minority in time, and Christmas would become completely gagged. You may want to reinforce respect of religious minorities, because when you'll be in heir shoes, you better hope they won't tell you the majority of people don't want christmas decorations in stores, as they then have to explain to their kids what christmass is, and what christians are.

I think respect should be even on both sides. Christmas is a pagan celebration and even though some think they are honouring God by keeping Christmas the reality is they are offending God. It is not God's holiday but a pagan dietys holiday. I for one would like to see a little respect. God was kicked out of schools so therefore kick all other gods out as well. Make it fair. But ppl don't like to play fair.

I am not a JW nor do I celebrate xmas. I am a bible believing Christian.

They need an excuse and they used the ones who don't observe the holiday. Here, in the US, it is politically incorrect to say Merry Xmas, Happy New Year. A couple years ago it was changed to Happy Holidays.

Being of the group who gets doors shut in our faces why, all of a sudden, would we care about the goings on in the holiday season? Our kids can stay home, be excused early, or go to the library. Somebody needed a scape goat.

This really is political correctness gone mad.

How about love, tolerance and consideration on the part of the JW’s?

Why are they not able to accept the celebration of the birth of Jesus?

Most Christians accept the time of year is not correct.

Although many people just use the occasion as an opportunity to ignore the fact that –

    John 3:16-21 KJV

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.

21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

So let’s get everyone reading the Bible again and living by the standards it sets.

Sadly mankind will only do what is best for themselves and ignore any offer of reconciliation.

    Revelation 22:18-21 KJV

18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:

19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

20 He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

21 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
