Why do i lose connection from call waiting?

was on the phone with a friend of mine..I heard a beep which means there was a call waiting,so I told my friend to hang on and pressed the flash button to get the other call..after finishing..I pressed flash to get back to my friend..i got a dial tone..she called 5-10 minutes later and asked why I hung up on her..i told her it wasn't my doing. She understood..but it happened while we were on the phone again. I picked up the other call..told him to hang on..then pushed flash to tell my friend there was a call for my dad..she said okay and when I pushed the FLASH button.. that party was disconnected. What is wrong? does anyone else have these problems?

The FLASH timing has to be within the range of the switch it's connected to. For example, most normal FLASH buttons send a 500-750 mS pulse, and some do not. If the switch is looking for something different, or if the feature "flash means disconnect" is set, then the call drops and there is not FLASH for hold.

Check with your dial tone or PBX provider for the proper flash sequence and the timing.

is that this dial-up or DSL? If dial-up, this appears like a "function" the place AT&T detects a decision is coming in, suspends your information superhighway consultation while you're taking the call, after which permits you to reconnect the place you have been. if it extremely is the case, there is maximum probable a putting on your AT&T application to tutor it off. whether it extremely is DSL, confirm you have a DSL clear out on each telephone on your domicile, alongside with units that use the telephone line- answering machines, satellite tv for pc television boxes, alarm structures, even some scientific units "telephone domicile" to checklist some thing or different, and that all of them can mess with a DSL sign. Oh, and don't pay the exhorbitant expenses for DSL filters at your interior reach massive field electonics place. I netted 12 kind call DSL filters for below a greenback apiece on eBay.

Your 'flash' button may be defective and out of the parameters of the required on/off time required for Call Waiting operation.....
