Aside from the entertainment value of a good story, they provide exposure to different cultures, lifestyles, professions, etc. After a while this gives the reader a wider, more realistic perspective of the world around them.

Older writings often reveal more than just the plot content. Reading books from the turn of the (19th) century gives a glimpse at how people thought, what their concerns were back then. Their daily routine is often more interesting than the actual tale. This is not found in films.

As for difference, novels are usually fictional and focus on a single story line and character/group of characters. Non-fiction books can be biographies or historical events written and embellished as a story.

Pleasure, improving language skills and power of expression, learn world history, geography, arts, peoples and their cultures, traditions, etiquette, food and food habits, their apparel, styles. Then there the flora, fauna of different parts of the world, fruits, flowers and what not.The list is endless. The subjects cited are but a minuscule of what you have probably been missing. It is never too late to start your worldly education by starting to read.It is not enough if one is only well versed in ones academic and vocational skills. There is a big, wide world out there waiting to be discovered and explored in all its facets. One may not be able to master them all but one can certainly acquire a smattering of a few subjects which will make one a better person.

And to explain to you the difference between a novella or a story,a novelette(a brief novel or a long short story),a novel,a dissertation or a thesis etc.will take too much time and patience of which I have very little at this juncture. So is the case with explaining how to write a novel. As for how long it will take to finish writing a novel, there is no time limit and depends exclusively on the author and the type of novel that the author is writing.

    Have a Nice Day.

Any person from my school could easily answer this question, it's sad that you don't know. Literature can be for personal entertainment or to gain knowledge. To pass boredom or to gain some kind of new knowledge. I think Novels definitely enrich the mind; whether it helps by expanding someones knowledge or just letting imagination grow. It's all in the creativity in a humans mind. I read novels because they're fun; more than fun, excitingly enriching and enticing. I believe people read books because it gives them something to do, something to talk about, something to enjoy without having to turn on a tv or go outside and bake in the sun. Books, novels, etc., shouldn't be seen as a waste of time or whatever you are trying to imply, but they should be respected as the timeless things that they are.

  • Firstly they improve your language.

secondly you get into the story while you read novels. reading short stories usually doesn't give that effect. But some witty short story writers grab you along with them.

A good short story makes your thought to linger about the story after you have finished reading it.

    .

A good novel takes you into the story while you are reading it

I read novels for pure and sheer entertainment. I learn new words along the way and get a better understanding on how to write one when I come to doing so.

For pleasure. actually, it depends on the person. People read for many reasons, there are people who read a book not because they like the book but they want to be able to say that they have read it. They want to be in the swim! Some people read it for Vocabulary. Some people do it as an exercise, but believe me it DOSEN'T help. Read a book only if u enjoy it and only because you enjoy it :-)

How long......? it takes years together!

it improves imagination. And language simultaneously. A novel is a long book. Food is Cuisine.
