englands oldest and respected enemy of all time?
i personally think its the french , they have always , stood up to us and always obey the rules of warfare tough yet honest , englands had many enemies who do u respect as a fair and decent lets say opponent rather than enemy

How many wars were there? Anyway, the 100 years war is good enough.
Oldest might be the Saxons, but they were largely Franco Germanic tribes. And Germany certainly was not a large power till their unification in what, like the 1800s? So it has been and always will be the French (though they sure did lose A LOT).
France is like Japan's China or America's Germany (well, maybe not so much the latter). In any case, a lot of war and what not made a lot of bitterness but has cooled down considerably.
French vs British is NOT like arab countries though. They are much more worse than respected opponents.

I am also unable to think of anyone besides the French. They haven't exactly hated eachother but they clash in many places one of the most famous being the French and Indian War (in America) or The 7 Years War (In Europe). If anyone else I would have to say the Spanish. They both had an exceptional navy and they both were the main countries who fought for colonies in America.
