Advice on getting a second puppy.?

I currently have a 3 month male chihuahua. I've had him since he was 4 weeks b/c its owners were trying to get "rid" of them. He is a very happy and healthy puppy, but I want to get him a friend. I've been looking at a 4 month female chihuahua that is for adoption. She is spayed and vaccinated. I will be getting my male chi neutered soon, as well.

I am a college student and part-time employee but I have several breaks in my day. I go see my puppy every 3-4 hours. I feel that he needs a friend b/c he hasn't had much contact with other dogs. Would it be a good idea adopt another?

Update:

I'm just not sure if maybe it's better to focus all my attention to one puppy. I wouldn't want to make either of them feel left out or less special than the other.

Update 2:

My puppy is enrolled in puppy classes. And a friend sometimes brings her 6month lab-mix over to my place. Of course my puppy runs away from it.

Don't. You need to spend time training, socializing and bonding with your puppy. A new puppy will just confuse him, lead to huge issues with training.

Start taking your puppy places. Enroll in a training class, go to parks and make an effort to get him out with other dogs. If you can't make that effort with one dog, you can't make it with 2 and you will have 2 unsocialized terrors. You can try hiring a dog walker to take him out during the day and even get him in on group walks. Doggy day care can be good, but some don't take in young dogs, even a couple hours at a time a couple days a week can be good. Getting another puppy is not the way to socialize your current puppy, puppies need to be around dogs of all sizes, breeds and ages to be socailized properly.

You should wait until your puppy is at least a year old, preferably 2-3 years old before considering getting another puppy.

You will uncover that obtaining a moment puppy will supply your ancient puppy a brand new hire of lifestyles. He might get slightly fed-up with being pulled round by means of the brand new puppy however, whilst he is had ample, he's going to permit the brand new puppy realize, for you to additionally instruct your new puppy how to act. I have had six puppies within the final thirty years, continuously with 2 puppies at a time, an ancient puppy and a tender puppy. It is way greater for puppies to be round their possess variety and whilst the time eventually comes, and I desire it would possibly not be any time quickly, whilst you eventually ought to say good-bye for your ancient pal, you'll uncover that having an additional puppy is a fine relief. My moment and 3rd puppies have been Lab/Collie crosses and the creation of a tender, feminine, golden retriever re-vitalized the puppy we concept we have been approximately to lose. He went on to arrive the ripe ancient age of fifteen. EDIT following ADDITIONAL DETAILS: Take your puppy to satisfy your new puppy, which I presume goes to be a rescue animal, on impartial territory. Any professional puppy's residence or animal sanctuary can have a cozy subject wherein each animals may also be effectively announced below supervision. Even in case your puppy is good socialised, the rescue puppy can have problems with different puppies, in particular if it's been at the streets for a while. If both puppy indicates any aggression, take into account making an attempt one other animal. From private revel in, I could additionally CLOSELY supervise your puppies the primary few instances you feed them in combination. Any undertaking that might result in pageant (new toys, concentration from household contributors) have to be performed with sensitivity and a organization perspective from you to give up the trouble from deteriorating right into a scrap.

Yes, absolutely! It's great that you can see him every 3-4 hours, but he would be much muchhh happier with another dog! AND chihuahua's are pretty easy to maintain other than the fact that they have a small bladder!
