Christians: why is it ok to lie to your children about Santa?...........?

when God tells us to always be honest?

Update:

Do you think the scriptures are joking when it says?:

Psalms 5:6  You will destroy those speaking a lie

Pr 6:16-19

There are six things that Jehovah does hate; yes, seven are things detestable to his soul: 17 lofty eyes, a false tongue

John 8:44 - When he (Satan) speaks the lie, he speaks according to his own disposition, because he is a liar and the father of [the lie]

Does it matter that the lie is not intended to hurt? Well, consider who lies originate from and then answer...................

Update 2:

Manx...I did for a short time but was raging when I found out my mother had lied to me - I didnt trust her for some time afterwards

I never told my daughter that Santa existed. Furthermore, I told her not to bother with all this Santa nonsense and focus on Jesus, instead.

Why have fairy tales, too? Everyone knows that there is no such person as Cinderella and Snow White, let alone Dwarves and Fairy Godmothers... we all know that pigs don't build houses out of anything, let alone out of straw and bricks, we all know that no mouse ran up a clock and no itsy bitsy spider went up a garden spout, we all know that George Washington never chopped down a cherry tree and Frosty the Snowman never wore a magic hat, there was never a reindeer named Rudolph and there was never a little boy named Tiny Tim... so lets get rid of all fantasy, folk lore, and fairy tales, and just do math problems for the rest of our sad, sorry, dreary lives

    or, not

Santa is a symbol not an actual person. To be honest anyone can be Santa to their children but it is strongly based off a real person named St. Nicholas.

i thought it was jesus that says that not god....

    religion is confusing..

and we do ti because it creates excitement for children i remember trying to stay awake for ages hoping to meet santa and getting so excited knowing that i had been good enough for him to come see me and that i was special. (even though i never realised all my christmas presents were from my parents and not santa i never caught on)

but it makes their chrismas better, if you dont want to do it dont... but be prepared for angry parents coming to your door wodnering why your child is telling all their friends santa isnt real and ruining their christmas

I think that most children have the ability to understand 'story'. The exciting bit is to unravel the mythic from the hidden truths which we are all trying to do.....honest!
