What is the best venomous snake to start with?
When I get my lisence, I want to get a Sidewinder, Gaboon Viper, Boomslang, or some type of cobra(definately not the King!!!). I know these are probably not for the beginner, but I can't find anything on this topic. What is the best choice to start with?
I forgot to add that the venomous would not be my first snake. I've had corn snakes, garter snakes, burmese pythons, and a red tail boa. I'm get a mexican black kingsnake soon. It will be a little while before I get a hot, but I do have experience with nonvenomous.

First off what country are you in, reason I ask, just in case you want the local
hospital to have anti-venom on hand. Sidewinders don't do that well in captivity.
Gaboons are not a great first hot snake either, very heavy and you need to
hooks to handle the weight. If you're in the US I would say the best first hot snake might
be a Rock Rattler or if you want something cool looking look at Eye Lash Vipers.
I've had both and they do well in captivity if captive born.

Sidewinders are the best to start with. Their venom will cause you a lot of pain if bitten and you might lose a finger or two, but is very rarely fatal.
I prefer Western DiamondBacks as starter venomous. They are very fast, however they are also very good eaters and they rattle a lot before they strike. This way you get to learn the behavior of a venomous snake while also knowing what sets it off and what scares it.

I would start by figuring out what is the most popular venomous snake to end one's herp career with, and then not pick that one.

why do you want a venomous snake ? all those snakes you said you want can kill you with just one bite if you don't get medical attention ASAP. when you get your license be sure to study with a really good herpetologist so you can learn how not to be bitten. I'd say maybe a coral snake they are poisonous but not as bad as the ones you want. Good luck

Your best chose would be a mangrove or false water cobra...their venom is mild and they are good starter...false water cobras can be fairly tame and handable...good luck!!

if its your first snake ever you might want to get soemthing that is not venomous, but if you must get one, research each speices and see which one suits you best.
Pick one that is fairly non aggressive and easy to carefor, sorry I can';t give you more info but I dont know much about venomous snakes as pets
