can I ask what is Let's Take A Trip 18.?

1967: Can you Please add some songs to my list? thank you.

Can you believe it, were waking down the avenue of time and here we are 1967.So show we get the show on the road?

This is the year The Doors make a name for themselves beyond the Los Angeles area, releasing their groundbreaking debut album, and the Number One single 'Light My Fire.' Taking their name from Aldous Huxely's work The Doors Of Persception, a study of his own experiments with hallucinogenic drugs, the band is controversial from the start. Singer and lyricist Jim Morrison enthusiastically models himself after the greek god of wine and orgiastic exess, Dionyso [although he thankfully draws the line at the human sacrifice part]. Morrison's uncompromising stand, coupled with a rampant drink and drug consumption, inevitably bring conflict with police forces and local authorities, who make various attempts to curb his apparently outrageous and lewd conduct, on and off stage, but only succeed in intensifying the singer's legendary status and obseeive following. A giant freakout talkes place at London's Roundhouse. Bands on the bill include Pink Floyd, The Who and The Move.

20,000 hippies turn out for the Human Be-In at Golden Gate Park, San Francisco, with music from Jefferson Airplane, Big Brother and the Holding Company, and Quicksilver Messenger Service. Similar events are held on the same day in Los Angeles and New York City. There's pandemonium at London's Heathrow Airport as fans try to get a glimpse of The Monkees arriving for their first promotional tour of Britain. 20th of Feburay Kurt Cobain, future leader of Nirvana is born in Gray's Harbour Community Hospital, Aberdeen Washington. The Velvet Underground release their debut album, The Velvet Underground And Nico, in the US. Steve Winwood leaves the Spencer Davis Group to form Traffic. As part of a package tour headed by Roy Orbison and The Small Faces, Jeff Beck unveils The Jeff Beck Group, featuring vocalist Rod Stewart, bassist Ron Wood and drummer Ray Cook, at The Astoria, Finsbury Park, London. Police use tear gas and batons to dispel a riot when The Rolling Stones play their first gig behind the Iron Curtain in Warsaw, Poland. 100 fans are injured. US Greyhound Bus Company starts to run tourist trips through San Francisco's 'Hippyland'. June 16th The Monterey Pop Festival begins at the county fairgrounds in Monterey, northern California, marking the start of what becomes known as The Summer Of Love. It's also a landmark event for several of the performers. Janis Joplin's manager doesn't want her performance filmed, but fortunately for posterity she persuades him otherwise. Otis Redding wins over a whole new audience of rock fans. And The Who, not widely known in the States beforehand, crash through 'My Generation' trashing their gear and sending a wake-up call to the more laidback concert-goers. Most memorable however is the triumphant US homecoming of Jimi Hendrix, mesmerising his audience and iconically setting fire to his Stratocaster guitar aat the climax of 'Wild Thing'. The Beatles release their new album, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, in the UK. It goes straight to number one. David Bowie's debut album is released on Deram Records. Mick Jagger and Keith Richard are found guilty of drug offences and sentenced to three months in jail, prompting The Times to run the famous editorial, 'Who breaks a butterfly on a wheel?'. In support, The Who record and release two Jagger & Richards songs, 'Under My Thumb' and 'The Last Time', billing themselves as The Who In Support Of Mick & Keith, A month later both successfully appeal. The Jimi Hendrix Experience pull out of a totally unsuitable supporting slot on The Monkees US tour. He's recently been criticised by the Daughters Of The American Revolution, who claim his act is 'too erotic.'

October 3rd folk hero Woody Guthrie dies. November 9th Rolling Stone America's first national rock magazine, is launched in San Francisco, giving away a free roach clip with every issue.

What a year 1967 was Musically things were really heating up. Seems I can remember the first time I heard every one of these songs. Every one had an effect on me. My interest in music was growing in leaps and bounds. I could not imagine a day without music and listening to my stereo radio in my room, playing my new records was a religious experience or I should say more of a spiritual experience.Sgt Pepper's Lonely Heart Club Band was a treasure. Still is.I played my albums over and over. Couldn't wait to share with my friends when I discovered a new album. Those were very formidable years set to this kind of music. I became socially aware. I was a part of something larger. Something very exciting. You could feel it in the streets,at school and through the air. Thanks for the memories,Dave.

What a time for music huh, but I loved soul music back then and the first song in 67 by Aretha that year for me would be "Chain Of Fools" when you hear that guitar intro you know you in for biznez.....

sorry it's a 10 way tie for first place, great back story set piece for question . Most concise and properly described history of the musical year, well done.

    Jefferson Airplane - White Rabbit.

Penny Lane/Strawberry Fields Forever was the best single of 1967 imo. And how can you have sinned so badly by leaving out Waterloo Sunset by The Kinks.
