Why are Senate Democrats Afraid to Read the Bill?

If the legislation is so important then why are they afraid to have it read out loud?

Normally, when someone is afraid of something happening it is becuase 1) they fear the consequences, 2) they don't want others to know the truth of something, or 3) they have something to hide.

Is there something in the "omnibus" bill that they don't want anyone to hear?

Update:

This kind of pathetic legislation *needs* to be stalled and/or delayed. I agree that many Republicans have earmarks in this bill and they might not want that revealed, but the fact remains that the Democrats are more eager to pass this because they know that they have only 19 days left.

    1) they fear the consequences, 2) they don't want others to know the truth of something, or 3) they have something to hide.

All of the above plus they fear that it will go past the scheduled break and they will no longer have a quorum, meaning it would have to pass the Republican Controlled Congress if any changes are made and that might not happen without severe cuts in spending.

The bill is almost 2 thousand pages of theft during a time when we need to cut spending and not raise taxes. Something the landslide vote this past November showed the people want.

    You can read it yourself.

I hope the read it as slowly as possible, let the inept government shut down until after the New Representatives are in office. We voted to cut spending lets force these stubborn rats to do so.

Even Republicans who have put pork in have vowed to vote against it, nut that is not enough for my liking, they should not have any pork in it either. However, it must be stopped there is NO reason to continue spending the way they have been.

The ultimate question is also, does Harry Reid have enough clout to get the Senators to stay during the new year to have a quorum?

Reading the bill is a delaying tactic. The senators and their aides know what is in the bill. The current Senate is replaced by the new Senate on Jan. 5. Before voting on a bill there is a required amount of debate and reading by the clerk. If someone does not want a bill to be voted on, someone just demands more debate and a reading by the clerk to eat time.

Of course there is... But there are some "Republicans" that too need to be exposed. Let's get all those earmarks and who is behind them out in the open.

    Force it to be read....

    WAKE UP PEOPLE!

They are not afraid. They don't like the Congress' time being wasted to read something all Congresspeople should have already read this close to the end of the year. The reading of the omnibus bill on the floor of Congress is just a stalling tactic by Republicans to delay its passage until next year when more Republicans will be voting on it. Democrats aren't afraid; Republicans are just being prigs.
