Lucas, Peyton, and their baby left Season 6 to go and live in LA as a family. And OTH is now on Season 8.
Or do you mean, why'd they leave in real life? Chad Michael Murray (Lucas) wanted more money in acting OTH, and they couldn't give him more, so they had to make him leave somehow. So if Lucas leaves, Peyton has to leave, and if Lucas and Peyton have to leave, the baby has to leave too. So they just made them leave happily. :)

Lucas, Peyton, and the baby left at the end of season six to go live near Luke's mom and Andy. Chad Michael Murray and Hilarie Burton left because both of their contracts were up and were not offered the right amount of money. Mark Schwahn, the director, says it is very likely for them to come back in season 8 for Brooke's wedding :)
