Your hair is breaking off because of the chemicals from hair dyes, didn't know if you did or do. Cutting them off to make room for new growth and conditioning or oiling your hair, but the chemicals will remain in your system for months even for years, if you're allergic to it. That's normal for chemically treated hair.
Avoid more stress to the hair, by using heating tools to style your hair.
Google: "Foods for Healthy Hair" - the website had moved, type it in. Two others also:

Growing healthy hair doesn't come from a bottle or pills and hair products do not speed hair growth. Any hair oil, is another form to keep hair moisturized, nothing more. If you're in HS, your hair & nails should be growing normally, and as healthily as possible, since you're eating healthy foods. But when hair isn't growing as fast, it's because they've been tempered with: chemicals, hair straightening, etc. . . My hair grew from bob to waist length in 3 1/2 - 4 years in HS.
You have the Afri-Amer hair there, which means your hair is more fragile than normal hair, and the problem you're experiencing is a possible due to some hair or beauty product poisoning and your hormone's changing.

I know hair. I have over 4 decades of hair know-how. I have silky, shiny, soft, smooth very healthy hair down to my knees. Previously damaged by perming & dyeing in the 80's & 90's. I've known people in their 30's whose hair stopped growing from ironing their hair in the 70's

There are several things that can help. I suggest going to a salon (or a beauty school its cheaper and theyll do a great job) and getting a deep conditioner. Tell the stylist what is going on with your hair and they should know what to use on it. If the salon you go to use Redken products I suggest you ask them to use Extreme Kat conditioner and a strength shot. I also suggest buying Redken Anti snap. Its a leave in conditioner. It works great to stop breakage. You just put a little in after you get out of the shower everyday. Some other tips are try not to brush your hair while its wet, use a wide tooth comb no brushes! Also use a wide tooth comb in the shower after you condition it to get rid of tangles. Don't use extremely hot water. I rinse my hair in cold water after i condition it. Try not to use lots of extra heat. If you have to blow dry it don't straighten it. Or let it air dry the straighten it. I also suggest not sleeping on it wet and sleep with a silk pillowcase. You can try all of these together if you want! Hope this helps!!
