I need more memory on my computer?

I need more memory on my computer because I can't download my new anti-virus software. I was thinking about buying an external hard drive and putting my itunes on it. Would I still be able to download music and put it on my ipod if my itunes is on my external hard drive? Also, what type of hard drive should I get? My computer is a Windows XP. How much space do you think I will need?

It sounds like what you need is an extra Hard Drive - the good news is they're cheap now! You can get an internal drive (which goes inside your computer) or an external drive (which plugs into your computer using USB).

It would be a good idea to move your song files (mp3's itunes downloads) to the extra drive as they can take up space if you have many of them. You can configure iTunes to use your external drive as your media library in the iTunes options.

"Memory" is normally what people call "RAM" (random access memory) - this is good for the computer too as it lets you run more programs at once but if your computer is running Windows XP you might have a hard time finding RAM.

You might also want to go into your Control Panel and go to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall programs you don't use anymore - that will free up some space.

You will be able to but if you are planning to sync music, the external hard drive must be plugged in to your computer.

Western Digital. You can get the big External HD or Passport, which is lighter.

As much space as you want.
