Radar detectors ARE legal in most states.
Some states use detector detectors but most of them are used in the few states that they are illegal in.
Whistler is a good brand.
Radio Shack is typically more expensive than anyone else.
They will work well if a radar is on constantly but not if you are getting 'pulsed'.
You will get a ticket more times than not if you get pulled for speeding and they see the RD.
If you are going to speed, you might as well get one...it certainly gives you better odds than without (if they are legal in your state).
Lastly, it's best to go the speed limit or at worst 5 over...don't be silly, don't be dangerous, don't be aggressive. Remember that your car can kill you and your passengers along with other innocent motorist.

I suggest you start doing some more research, or let that idea go all together, and here is why, police, have been beating radar detectors for years, they have instant on radar, laser guided radar, and most police agencies use small planes , in conjunction with a cop on the ground to give tickets, So unless you have your detector pointed out your sunroof, it does not help for an air plane. I have watched the eighteen wheelers for years, I had old trucker friends explain how years ago, I watch the trucks, sometimes, they are all high balling and moving along pretty good, that is an indication that they know no cop is in the area, I also try to do my high speed runs on sundays or mondays, I watch for what I call chp bait, sometimes one or two people who come rocketing up behind me, and keep going, I give them some lead time (several minutes, ) and then pick up speed after them, I try to keep to the speed limit a lot of times, that is the only way to not get a speeding ticket, The cb radio is a great communication tool, and the truckers know the schedule ot the state troopers or chp which ever agency it is, and keep each other pretty well informed. sometimes, if you see all the trucks going exactly the speed limit, there is a cop somewhere up ahead, not all truckers have cb , I have seen days where one trucker comes flying up past a lot of trucks, and gets pulled over down the road, (that's the guy with no cb in his truck) If you want a good top quality radar detector that works, a bill and a half wont cut it, to get one that will do any good, I suggest you get above two hundred minimum here is a link that seemed to have good info www.laserveil.com.

Radar detectors do one thing and one thing only. They warn people who are speeding that there is a cop with a radar gun. You can get a detector and speed your heart out, or you can do what the rest of us do and drive the speed limit. Radar detectors are for retards who cannot control themselves. Not to mention the fact that they give said retards a false sense of security. And if you get pulled over for something else, don't plan on talking your way out of it if you have a radar detector on the dash. Because the cops know that you use it against them.

It is cheaper all the way around to drive the speed limit. It saves gas, eliminates the stress of where the cops are, saves the insurance from going up due to tickets, speeding does not actually save enough time in your commute or road trip to even warrant the cost of fuel, and stress. Keep in mind both the cops equipment and the detectors sold to us are made by the same people, so every time the cops get a new, toy your toy must be updated to keep up. Sense the detectors are only microwave radio receivers, there are false readings that you get, that is where some of the stress comes in figuring out if it was a cop, or other erroneous signal.

The problem is the cops can detect YOUR detector. It pisses them off and they can stop you and make your life miserable.
