What is it about cats that people like?

They purr, and they're warm, and they're really excellent company without being too hyper about it, like dogs tend to be. Also, if you either declaw/adequately train your cat, they shouldn't scratch your furniture too much, and if you put the litterbox in an out of the way place, it shouldn't stink too much either. And face it, every kind of pet you could get needs to eat, besides maybe a pet rock. Also, petting is soothing for both the owner and cat. I don't know why, but it's appealing.

Well, I have a cat because they are really affectionate creatures. My cat will cuddle with me and purr, and she catches any dead rodents in my garage (eww). They are great companion animals, and my cat doesn't scratch the furniture like some cats do. Also, if you go away for a day, you can leave food and water and they will take care of themselves. aka they are independant.

I find her entertaining when she plays around

she's really sweet and likes being stroked and sitting on peoples laps

and she responds to me!

You could say that of many pets. Cats are different from dogs, and many people don't understand this.

People like cats because they are unpredictable, and they don't pretend to like you and kiss up to you like a dog would.

I only have a cat so my dog has something to chew on. Other than that it's useless.
