What is better for self defence; Shotokan Karate or Systema?

    obviously systema, karate is good for your kicking and punching, but it wont protect you in the urban area where you punches dont mean anything against a desert eagle or a 9 inch blade. and on the ground, if your karate and no grappling, your dead meat. but id train in both. I train in Jiu Jutsu and karate for that mix of stand up offense, defense and ground work; you need grappling.

    I like the self discipline and focused attacks of shotokan keeping a cool head when being assulted is very important for self defence. But Systema is a also a very powerful technique it is more of a killing and weapon based technique though so I guess its all about your own personal preferences. Break someone by hand or by steel your choice.
