Modern rock bands that are similar to these artists?

I've recently noticed that most of my favorite musicians are old enough to be put in a retirement home. Since I'm 18 and don't listen to modern music, I'm starting to think that it's kind of odd. So I would like to start listening to more modern bands, but I want to find some that are similar to the ones I already listen to. Here's a list of my favorite artists:

The Beatles (my favorite band ever)

Bob Dylan (greatest lyricist and my first, and only, concert)

Simon & Garfunkel (Paul Simon is a poet)

Eric Clapton

Elton John

George Harrison (love his solo work)

The Who

Can any of you guys suggest modern bands that are similar to any of these artists? I know it's impossible, but are there any modern band who's lyrics are almost as good as those of Bob Dylan and Paul Simon?

Thanks

Brian Jonestown Massacre's album "Bringing it all back home again" sounds like a fusion between Bob Dylan and the Stones. It's really interesting, although its only a 5 or 6 song album.

Not sure if you've heard Jim James' cover album for George Harrison, it's pretty good.

A good bluesy-southern throwback band is JJ Grey and Mofro (if you like Clapton, you might dig these guys).

Also check out the Fleet Foxes and Monsters of Folk if you're a fan of CSNY, they have similar qualities.

I don't think you're going to find bands similar to any of those .. Music today is just so different, but so much respect for someone who still listens to the greatest bands/artists in rock history. The only modern band I could think of is Seether. They are influenced by Nirvana and personally one of my favorite bands but I know you didn't include Nirvana on your list. So good luck!

I am also 18, and like the same music as you, and am pretty much obsessed with bob dylan. The modern bands i feel are as good or on their way to being so, are The Arctic Monkeys (their latest album humbug is AMAZING, and Alex Turner is a brilliant lyricist), Tame Impala (they sound like cream, and the singer sounds like john lennon, they're also experiencing a rapid increase in popularity), and The Strokes (they are about to release a new album)

Like everyone above me mentioned, it's damn near impossible to find music like that anymore, but the few bands who are worth your time are The Felix Culpa, Tool, and yes, 30 Seconds to Mars(especially The Kill). Bands like Breaking Benjamin, however, I find to be incredibly whiny and obnoxious with no real musicianship or message.

EDIT: Add Dave Matthews. Their stuff is definitely a trip to experience.

    Hope I helped :)

Source(s): I listen to alot of music. BTW, you should listen to Pink Floyd. One of the greatest and most original bands of all time.
