well, you will never now until you ask. He might be think the same thing but don't know how to say it or doesn't think you are into him. but shake the butterflies out and go for it

Don't do it. You are scared for a reason. Keep it to yourself. However if you do chose to ignore my advice, you will feel relieved and you won't have the heavy What If question following you for the rest of your life. Good luck
