PS3 has yellow light of death what should i do?

my system is out of warranty so here are the options i have.

1. there is a technician certified to repair it in my area. he will do it for $50 but says with a repair done by anyone, including sony, it will last for at best 6 to 12 months. (Also i bought this system used a year ago so it could of had the same problems before.)

2. the technician had an offer where you can have it repaired for $30 but you had to take it in to a gamestop and exchange it for credit towards the slim PS3.

3. found repair guide online and my dad has experience soldering electronics so we could try that to see if we can fix it.

4. have the technician repair it and sell then it on ebay. money i get would go towards a new PS3

what would be my best option.

*no sending it to sony is not an option i will not pay $150+ for them to fix it (and have it break in 6 months) when i could buy a new system for 150 extra*

Update:
