Depends on the weather. We have left our dogs in the car before a few times, but only under certain circumstances. If it is too warm, it can be dangerous for them in the car. Our dogs are Golden Retrievers, so they have pretty thick coats, so they are actually happy if it is cooler in there.
In most cases, think of yourself in their situation. Would you want to sit there with no water, no air circulation, for a long period of time? If it is warm out, think of doing the same thing wearing a sweatshirt.
Edit: OH, you are talking about disobeying the rule and bringing the pet inside? No, I don't do that. Rules are there for a reason. If you bring it in anyways, I would really hope that the manager throws you out. While a dog's mouth is cleaner than a human's mouth, it doesn't mean their coat is a sanitary thing. It would be a health/sanitary risk to a food establishment to have an animal inside a food preparation business.

In most working environment, it is not practicable. For example, a factory, it will not be safe for any body working there and for the pets. For a very few places it might be possible for bring the pets like a shop with only a few staff. If too many of the staff of a large shop want to bring their pets like cat and dogs to work will also cause problem. So, only in limit circumstances will pets be OK.

No-it is unfair to the other patrons who are spending their money to have a dog free environment.
Some people are highly allergic or have morbid fear of them and are going there to enjoy their time.
Most people who think their animals have human characteristics have no idea how disgusting and obnoxious their animals are to others.
Same goes for many parents.
If the owner doesn't want pets or children-it's their establishment, their rules.
Find someplace else to dine.

I feel bad when I go to restaurants(not very often either) and have to take my dog with me. He is a service dog and better behaved then some peoples kids. If I had another choice I would leave him at home.
I do not understand why people think they need to take their pets every where with them.

no, my pets can stay in the house. and it would be pretty hard to hide 3 medium/large dogs, 6 rats and fish tanks (a 4ft one, a 2ft one and 1.5ft one)

WHY on earth do you feel compelled to bring your pet everywhere you go. Can't you go out and eat and leave them at home, and before you compare your dog to my child, your dog is NOT a child and NO your dog is not CLEANER than my child and all that other crap. Dogs do not belong where Food is prepared or served to the general public. If you want to eat with your dog, please cook at your house.
