what does it mean when a bird flies and slams themselves against your window at home?

i really think this bird is truly insane.

Update:

let me add, the bird is not a pet it's a wild bird.

Update 2:

i have blinds up but he or she still does that silly thing

It means you have really clean windows.

It could also be trying to attack it's reflection.

Birds cannot see glass and since all other clear spaces in their experience are safe to fly in they do not have any way to know to avoid it. When a bird sees a reflection in glass they may fly up to it but do not usually run into it. Re the blinds, if there is space between the slats the bird thinks there is space for it to fly through (like it does with tree branches and leaves). Close the blinds more so it does not think there is space enough to get through. I use a small sliver of soap and make vertical lines on my windows about every 2 " to prevent this--it washes right off when I wash my windows.

Birds may run into something when startled because they are looking behind them at the danger rather than where they are going.

If it is inside, it is trying desperately to get out. Close all the blinds then gently put a towel or sheet over it when it lands somewhere and gently gather it up in the towel and carry it outside.

ADD Re YOUR WINDOW BLINDS: if you go outside and look towards your windows fr a bird's eye view you may be able to see that even w blinds it can still look like a passage-way, esp on a bright, clear day.

It means the bird made a miscalculation. Possibly it was startled by something, perhaps a hawk or someones well fed cat had gone after it and in it's desperate attempt at escape it flew into the house. From a birds perspective while flying, glass can appear to be an open space. Millions (at lest) of birds are killed this way around the world annually & just like when birds are sucked into an airplane engine it's called a "bird strike". If you want to learn more about preventing them at home this is an easy intro: http://www.birds.cornell.edu/netcommunity/Page.asp...

If you want to look into buying window decals to help prevent strikes this site sells them---and btw, white decals work 100% better than the usual black or colored ones you see.

That your domicile windows are too sparkling or too reflective. in the journey that your domicile windows are closed, the chicken of happiness tried to provide good success to you, yet you barred it from doing so. something is struggling with luck from attaining you. If the domicile windows are open and the chicken flies in, then you actually were presented a message of nice success and love and a blessing for the destiny.

Most of the time they can see their reflection in the window and are often very territorial. Also, the other person was right, they can't see the glass. You do really need to put something there to keep this from happening.

Windows are CLEAR (transparent) the bird thinks it is just flying around.. He or she doesn't know what glass is..

WTF hahahahhahaha no ok so i have two birds one is truly insane, but insanity has nothing to with why it slams itself into the window! Close the curtains because birds don't see the glass and that could KILL IT!!!! hahahha sillllly!
