When it comes to animals I hold myself & others to one standard: Don't want or can't afford to spend money at the vet? Then don't get a pet (including livestock). Personal responsibility. Not negotiable. I have volunteered at wildlife & pet rescue for many years. I'm NOT an expert of any sort, my opinions and answers are based on my experience w animals over my lifetime. I enjoy looking after my pets, gardening, birding, hiking, cooking, knitting, travel, being w friends/family & I love (really love) to read books---real books w paper pages! Hopelessly low-tech I know.

  • Can you tile over sub-flooring if there is a big whole in the floor for a Hot-Tub?

Actually, I don't know if there is a big cut out for a hot tub, maybe it was supposed to just sit on the floor but the water connection is under this sub-flooring. We are considering purchasing this home. The floor is covered in ceramic tile except for what looks like plywood under an area rug where a hot tub was never installed. Is this a matter of just tiling over the sub flooring? Do we have to remove the water hook-up, is it an expensive job (we would hire a contractor)? I would be immensely grateful for any info from someone familiar w something like this. My husband & I are clueless about these things. Frankly, he's not even allowed to touch tools. Thanks.

  • Does anyone use those electric egg cookers for hard-cooked eggs?

I'm considering getting one & they are pretty inexpensive but I was wondering if they actually produce a fully hard cooked egg (large or extra large sized egg)? Thanks for any comments.

  • Person is declared dead, life insurance pays out, person later discovered alive?

In a case like the Brenda Heist story----Pennsylvania Mom goes missing, after appropriate number of years is declared dead so her husband finally collects her life insurance. Now, a couple years later Mrs. Heist surfaces in Florida (a hobo no less), husband, other family as well as authorities never knew she was still alive. Will her husband be required to pay the insurance company back or return any money that may still exist from the payout?

  • Will You Watch The Puppy Bowl?

More of a reminder than a question. It's always funny & cute & you can catch it for the rest of the day, even in re-run after the Super Bowl ends.

  • I would like to move 3 hydrangea plants to more shady spots.?

Actually they look like one big bush since I planted them right next to each other when they were tiny in 2009 (yeah, dumb I know). Can I just separate them carefully---I would do this in October after the heat quits? They are growing/blooming in DC area. Any tips are gratefully accepted.

  • Would you like to watch live streaming video of a pair of red-tailed hawks on their nest, 3 eggs so far?

This feed is from Cornell University in New York, home to the world famous Lab of Ornithology. It's very windy today so you can hear the sound and see Big Red (females name) getting her feathers ruffled by the wind.

  • How stupid can a bird owner be? Are there no limits? I thought I couldn't be surprised anymore.?

A person goes away for 2 weeks leaving their Sun Conure to fly free in the house. Upon returning the bird is injured on the floor---weak, can't walk & appears bloated. Owner takes bird to vet. The bloating is actually from the bird having not been able to poop for days, possibly more than a week. The vet gets over 100cc's of fecal material out of the bird. A 30 cc measure is what may come w a bottle of cough syrup. Anyway, nearly a half cup of slop. The bird prob flew into a window, mirror or other solid surface to sustain it's injury. And yeah, it died before leaving the vets office. The owner said they had done this before (left the bird out alone & unsupervised for weeks) but the worst that ever happened was they found it hanging tangled in drapery cords.

How do I know this actually happened? I'm at my vets office now (w dogs) and she was telling a group of colleagues about it. I was standing right there listening. So now a sweet Sun Conure is dead & suffered greatly. The idiot owner is prob wondering what kind of bird to get next. I'm not a person prone to violence & I hate feeling like this but I would love to choke the life out of that owner---is that wrong? I just had to vent (no pun intended).

Please everyone, review your bird first aid kit plus how secure their environment is and keep the darlings safe. Our pets only survive based on the care and safe keeping we provide them.

  • Is anyone else watching the Puppy Bowl on Animal Planet?

It's just so cute & funny. Attention cat lovers---the Half Time Kitten Show is about to start. And Bird fans, there's a cockatiel named Meet who they show in front of a smart phone "tweeting" about the event. Too cute. Animal Planet---watch.

  • Could this change in my YA profile be the work of another YA user?

I just answered a question on YA and my avatar has changed to the gray happy face and my name is now a question mark. I found this on at least one other answer as well. Who should I contact if I think someone has done something to my account? I am not in any way tech savvy. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

  • I goofed & deleted a bunch of emails I'd like to keep. Is there any way to put them back into my in box?

This is at Yahoo Mail. I can go into Trash & mark them as Unread but there they remain. I was hoping for a way to send them back to the in box w/o having to forward each one to myself (good grief!!). If there's a way to do it I can't find it. In Gmail you can click onto a thing that says Return To In Box. Any such luck at Yahoo Mail? I understand, however, if you just want to LOL & mock me for being so careless =: ]

  • Have you seen this Youtube video where the parrot sounds just like a crying baby?

Even if you have it's worth watching again. I only found this recently but had the thought that even tho the kid will grow out of this stage, the bird will keep it going forever LOL. Too funny.
