Can you tile over sub-flooring if there is a big whole in the floor for a Hot-Tub?
Actually, I don't know if there is a big cut out for a hot tub, maybe it was supposed to just sit on the floor but the water connection is under this sub-flooring. We are considering purchasing this home. The floor is covered in ceramic tile except for what looks like plywood under an area rug where a hot tub was never installed. Is this a matter of just tiling over the sub flooring? Do we have to remove the water hook-up, is it an expensive job (we would hire a contractor)? I would be immensely grateful for any info from someone familiar w something like this. My husband & I are clueless about these things. Frankly, he's not even allowed to touch tools. Thanks.

Sounds like they did have a hot tub or fountain in mind and never installed it, or removed it when they left.
As long as the subfloor in the cutout area is the same level as the rest of the floor, yes, you can just tile over it--but make sure those pipes are capped off securely first. You don't have to remove them, but be absolutely sure there is a way to turn the water off to them OUTSIDE of the area before tiling. If there isn't, have a plumber install a shut-off valve or remove the pipes and cap off the lines.
