Does anyone use those electric egg cookers for hard-cooked eggs?
I'm considering getting one & they are pretty inexpensive but I was wondering if they actually produce a fully hard cooked egg (large or extra large sized egg)? Thanks for any comments.
jellybean chick & sheloves_dablues----just a little more info for you: Actually, I know how to boil eggs, have been doing it somewhat successfully for over 50 years (yeah, I'm old). That baking in a muffin pan sounds interesting tho. The appliance would be for my 90 year old mother-in-law. She still lives on her own & cooks but I'm starting to worry about her abilities---she is leaving the electric stove turned on & not long ago she put a small pizza in her oven using a plastic cutting board to cook it on. Even when her house began filling w what she called smoke (toxic fumes from melting plastic) she didn't call 911 or push her LifeAlert call button. She called us to come over. I'm trying to find things she can use that will be somewhat safer. She's not far enough gone in the head to take her away from her home & the life she has. She is a first-generation Italian-American lady who, thru all her life, has lived only to be a good cook. I'm finally gett

They work fine. You control the hardness of the eggs by the amount of water you put in and how you set the dial. They are probably safer than using a stove. The eggs are actually steamed rather than boiled.

That actually seems pretty expensive for a tool that does one thing and will take up a lot of counter space.
You can make hard cooked eggs much more cheaply by baking them in a muffin tin for about 30 minutes at 325 F. Or, get one of those red egg timers for a couple bucks and boil it with your eggs - it changes color to black as the eggs cook, so you can precisely get the desired doneness of the eggs.
And if you have a Trader Joe's near you, they've recently added a new product, which is pre-cooked hard boiled eggs. I don't see it every time I'm there, but when I do see it I get it, as it is basically the same price as buying fresh eggs there.
