car leaking antifreeze at times?

I have a 2005 GMC Envoy Denali.

The gage was running very hot a few days back. I added water and antifreeze and it seems to be ok now.

I am noticing a leak of antifreeze at TIMES when the car is parked and I come out from a store.

I added more antifreeze today about 1/2 gallon. I did overfill it some so I expected to see some drainage.

It looks as close to what I can get is from underneath the car there is an open space about 2 feet or less behind the Radiator when i am under the car. I do see some hoses but they look to be metal and not rubber.

Is that area where the water pump would be located??

What would cause a car to leak at times and then at times it does not.

There is no way I can take it to be fixed for at least a week. I am keeping antifreeze with me to add if needed and staying very close to home.

Any help would be appreciated.

keep an eye on the anti freeze reservoir. If you continue to over fill past the maximum line it may have an overfill drainage tube or something like that. If it continues to drop and you notice antifreeze leaking take a look at the thermostat housing. This is usually located on the upper driver side of the engine closer to the radiator. you can usually trace by finding the fatter hose and following it to the thermostat housing. alot of times, the gaskets will corrode causing leaks. Check for leaks there. Also, take a look at all your hoses, make sure the hoses are in good working order and not briddle . If it does happen to be the thermostat housing, might as well change out the thermostat. From what it sounds like you have a bad thermostat. if it does happen to be the thermostat housing, it is an easy job, at least it was on my vehicle.

check the hoses for leaks or maybe you need to tighten up the hose clamps. If that's not it, then you have a hole on your radiator. Depending on the size of the hole, you may have to replace it. If I were you I would get it fix soonest. You don't want to drive it on a highway just encase your radiator completely goes out and car will immediately overheats. If you notice your car is overheating, roll your windows down and turn up the car heat the fan will come on and it will help cool off the the engine temporarily.

Sounds like the water pump is leaking and needs to be replaced. If the cooling system was never flushed or refilled with new coolant (once every 5 years or 50000 miles) then it is possible the old coolant became acidic and ate away at the pump deal. If the timing belt is accessible at the water pump, then now would be a money saver to replace it at this time a swell. Go to any reliable repair shop to have the system pressure tested to pinpoint the exact cause of the leak. gl........

There are several places that anti-Freeze can leak, like the Radiator itself, hoses, gaskets, water pump, Heater Coil, and from the engine head gasket...

Get a cooling system pressure test to see where it's leaking.
