Yes, you can paste the Google Adsense code into the theme editor as long as you select the "HTML Mode" tab first. You can also paste it into a sidebar widget area.
In addition, there are several advertising plugins such as "Advertising Manager" (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/advertising-ma... that will allow you to create multiple advertisements and place each one into your theme's sidebars, posts, and pages.
