I disagree with the answer previously given. I have a friend who was an extra in Caddy Shack and still receives a royalty check every January and June for his very small role. His checks range from $76-$212 depending on how many times it has been shown during the previous 6 month period. Recording Artist are paid in January and June as well for Album Sales minus Returns. Actors points rates and future royalties are negotiated pre-distribution and can vary depending on that actors contract terms and/or the Studios negotiated rates. Example, James Cameron took "points" based royalty payments instead of a salary because Titanic was so heavily over budgeted. Example 1 points could equal 10% of the box office take after all production cost were recovered. I know Brad Pitt takes a base salary plus points for many of his movies. I think the previous answer given by the member saying that Royalties are paid only for the first 10 years is based on his or her understanding regarding the 10 year contracts negotiated by the cast of "Friends". They each received $40-50 million dollars for the first 10 years of reruns. that will be renegotiated when a new term begins. They initially did not have those cushy terms. It wasn't until they revolted and threatened to walk off the set during the 6th year of production were they able to negotiate rerun royalties. That is really the gist of it right there. What an actor/actress can negotiate. FYI, Peter Billingsley is listed as Executive Producer in Four Christmases and Iron Man. He is doing well but I guarantee his salary from A Christmas Story was very small at the time. He has made Millions from Royalties and Merchandising. Hope this Helped.

Royalties as you call them only last ten years. He now makes nothing from it. But he is doing very well without it.
