My friend copies everything I do?

I recently became best friends at school with this girl who I'd never been that close with in the past. She's so nice, we have the funniest jokes with each other that no-one else seems to understand. She's probably one of the best friends I've had. But recently she's been copying everything I do, I'm a bit annoyed by it, I don't feel particularly unique anymore, haha. For example, whenever I start saying random quotes or jokes to her, she goes and tells all of them to her friends, saying that she made them up, when actually I did. When I buy new clothes from shops, she goes and buys the same ones. When I tell her funny stories about what's happened to me in the past, she goes and tells all her friends the same stories, saying that they all happened to her instead of me. This is so random, but she even tried to copy my handwriting?! Is that even possible? Also, recently I grew out my fringe because I didn't like it, and now it's a sort of side fringe. Then she said to me yesterday ''I'm going to try and grow out my fringe, I don't like it anymore.''. I told her that I really liked the whole 'indie style clothing look' and then on the weekend she said to me ''Do you like what I'm wearing? Do you think it looks indie? I was so happy because Calum told me I looked indie!''

It's kind of getting on my nerves now, because I don't want to be identical to her. I've tried to subtly hint at her, but I don't think she understands. I want to be her best friend but I don't want to look like her twin! I don't want to argue with her either, she's pretty damn scary when she's angry at someone. Should I just leave it, or what?

Take it as a compliment. Maybe you could say to her next time you buy clothes that a certain top suits her so she gets that instead of the same as you. And next time you tell her a joke tell everyone before she gets a chance to

Sounds like she has an identity problem. She probably didn't find "her place" and while being your friend, she really found that your personality and how you are is very appealing, thus she's copying you. This happens a lot, and there are many different outcomes depending on how she is. You should talk to her about it and if she's truly a good friend she would try to understand.

Could also try doing things you hate and telling her things you dislike. She might try and copy that instead. For example be like "Oh I really love tentacles as a scarf, wouldn't that be cool?" (I don't know something you would never say)

Your friend admires you and thinks that what you do is the best.

Copy what she does it will give your friend confidence in her individuality.

Ex.. If you have curly hair and she has straight hair straighten your hair and when she asks you about it say "Well you look so great with straight hair I wanted to feel beautiful too" This will show her that she has value as an individual and doesn't need to copy you.

girl, tell her the truth, my friend did that to my other friend for a whole year and that friend didnt do anything about it, but i told her she needs to tell her the truth, and she said to that girl, that if she didnt stop copying her that she told her to go move on to go be close friends with someone else, because she wasnt gonna take it any longer, and just go straight up to her and tell her that thats not what you want and that she should have her own looks/style/ personality thats what a friendship is about. be your own self dont care about what other people think about you

Compliment her when she is original and tries something new - e.g i really liked it when you put that look together it was so original, or try saying you like that fact that she's unique as that's really cool and you don't have to worry about competing with her because you're both great in your own way.

You say, "whenever I start saying random quotes or jokes to her, she goes and tells all of them to her friends, saying that she made them up, when actually I did".

    2. To cite or refer to for illustration or proof.

    4. To state (a price) for securities, goods, or services.

You didn't make them up either, did you?

You sound scared of her..either stand up to her or drop it. I always said it is much better to have others copy you then you copying them. You must be doing something good take it as a compliment..

She just looks up to you, it's perfectly normal, and although it is annoying, you should be complimented that you inspire her. I think you should just let her know that sometimes it's unacceptable and can be annoying. Remind her how she would feel if you copied her. Good luck.

I would say do the opposite of what you normally do and see if she copies it. If she copies it, then confront her about it. Just ask her straight up, "why do you copy everything I do?" If she doesn't then it was probably just a misunderstanding.

  • i know that it is probably the most annoying thing in the world, but i'd be flattered because i know that it's just a phase which will undoubtedly pass.
